Images otherwise fine are pixellated in carousel

Hi, I have been uploading images to the gallery widget in my blog. The same images that look perfect in posts are pixellated when I ‘link to carousel’. And if I ‘link to media file’ (which I’d rather not have to do; in theory the carousel is great), the images look fine but the captions I have typed are no longer visible. How can I make the carousel look good? Failing that, how do I use something else like media file and show captions? Grateful for any help.

@readingms, I wanted to double check your blog and verify carousel images are back to normal.
I found a recent post with a gallery in it at https://marystewartreading.wordpress.com/2017/03/05/4673/
But when I click on images in that post, it doesn’t open the carousel.
Have you changed any media settings recently by chance?

Oh wow, thank you, I’ve been wrestling with this most of this evening – I got a new laptop today and I honestly thought that because I’ve been writing my blog via my phone that I just hadn’t noticed before that the pics were fuzzy! I am soo happy and relieved, thank you for putting me out of my misery.

Just seen your second post. Yes I had changed it from carousel to media file because the pics looked so bad. When I saw your first post I immediately tried pics on carousel again and they look totally fine.
