How to remove wide fade at top of header image (Textbook theme)

  • I have a website I’m creating with the “Textbook” theme. When I set a header image for the home page, the top of it is faded white (like the live demo)

Is there a way to use html/javascript or settings in WordPress to manually remove this white fade so the header image is fully visible in the background? Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hey couragetheactor,

You’re using the free WordPress.com plan which doesn’t allow you to add any external code.

You could remove that linear gradient using CSS which is only allowed in Premium and Business plan.

  • Isn’t there a setting that controls this since it obviously isn’t what the image looks like? I can barely see my custom image because of that fade. Isn’t there a setting to change the gradient or opacity?

  • As mentioned above there is no free way to do this on a WordPress.COM free plan site. Only if you have the Premium or Business upgrade http://wordpress.com/plans for a site can you opt to apply custom CSS to a WordPress.com theme.

Note 1: If you have the required upgrade you can use this link https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform so you can create a thread that will appear in the CSS Forum where you will get the help you need with CSS editing.

Note 2: You can also post there prior to purchasing an upgrade to get an answer to whether or not what you want to do can be accomplished via CSS editing.

  • Thank you timethief! I read that last link and, among other things, it states this:

You can choose to apply your custom fonts or custom stylesheet to any of the themes available on WordPress.com. You can use any WordPress.com theme as a blank canvas if you check the Don’t use the theme’s original CSS option in the Customize → CSS panel.

I don’t see the “Don’t use the theme’s original CSS option” in the Customize menu.

  • Hi smokeyjoe390021781,

There isn’t a setting in the Customiser to control the opacity of the fade. The CSS area is only available on sites with a Premium or Business plan — your site is using the free plan so that option isn’t available.
