sitemap xml: Getting 404 error

  • Regarding the xml sitemap, mine does not work. It gives a page that says 404 error. I bought a domain (thehudsucker.com) from GoDaddy and mapped it here (March 20). Set our name servers correctly so all of that works and we are indexed on the web, but why does our sitemap not generate correctly? How Long does it take to fully transition if it is all mapped right?

Further, I received an email from Google webmaster tools stating that Googlebot can’t access the site. Why would they send this if everything else works?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I’m seeing your sitemap at http://thehudsucker.com/sitemap.xml just fine. Here is the first few lines from it:

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

  • I see it too now. Thank you. I’m so new to all of this and this community, but I’m really glad I’m a part of it.

Regarding the email I received from Google Webmaster Tools earlier tonight, why would they be saying this now:

    http://thehudsucker.com/: Googlebot can’t access your site Mar 20, 2013
Over the last 24 hours, Googlebot encountered 2 errors while attempting to retrieve DNS information for your site. The overall error rate for DNS queries for your site is 100.0%.
You can see more details about these errors in Webmaster Tools.

Should I be concerned about this email? I went on google search and typed site:thehudsucker.com and all the links show and are indexed. Does it take some time to transition to wordpress since I was coming from blog.com and was once mapped with them?

  • I’ve been getting these on my client sites (which are self-hosted) as well, and I suspect it is a glitch at Google, not a glitch here.

Don’t be concerned with the email from Webmaster Tools. I get stuff from them all the time for client sites that are NOT errors at all. Google seems to have something broken all the time in my experience with them. :)

  • Thank you so much for clearing that up and providing me with some answers. That is such a relief and it’s greatly appreciated. I would assume that is a glitch too as I really followed every instruction haha!

But again thank you so much! I feel so much better and less stressed. :)

  • You are welcome. Relax and enjoy your weekend. :)
