How to change website from public to private (take it off the air)?
-
The same question as in this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/can-i-go-from-a-private-website-to-a-public-website?replies=4#post-2889946
But in my version of wordpress (4.7.3), there is no Blog Visibility-option under Settings>Reading, and I can’t find it anywhere in the Dashboard. All I want is to take the site off the air, so customers can’t see the half finished site. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The Blog Visibility option is for WordPress.com, however, if you have installed WordPress 4.7.3 then you are using WordPress.com at a web hosting provider other than WordPress.com.
There may in fact be a plugin you can install that will give the same functionality. I would recommend asking at https://wordpress.org/support/ because I myself am not very familiar with all of the plugins available and that forum will have better information.
Sometimes your web host can help answer questions like this one too. You should check in with them to see what they say! They may already have an option built in to their control panel even.

It sounds like you are using a self-hosted version of WordPress.
You should really check the WordPress.org forums out at https://wordpress.org/support/
You could achieve what you want by installing a “Maintenance Mode” type plugin. This will show an “Website Under Construction” type page to anyone visiting your site until you are ready to go live.
