How to add photos to my blog

My advice would be to get an account on http://flickr.com and then use the Flickr widget under Dashboard >> Presentation >> Sidebar Widgets.

tinytim – Please take the time to read the excellent instructions provided in the FAQs here http://faq.wordpress.com/. It will give you a base of the step by step ways to proceed to add images from your own computer and from other URL’s. You will find even more support here http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=467&replies=2. After you read the instructions then engtech’s flickr suggestion will become more useful to you. Happy blogging.:)

If you’re going to be hosting a lot of photos, using flickr instead of uploading them to wordpress.com will have less headaches.

Engtech – that’s not necessarily true. If the picture is web “optimized” then you’ll have no trouble whatsoever. 50k per photo is fine for a blog and that will leave loads of space.
If you wanted to provide a link to a larger version, then use flickr, but otherwise there’s no need.

But there’s a 25 Mb limit on your wordpress.com blog for all of your images and posts. Much less of a hassle to start out hosting the images elsewhere.
Also, 50k is a bit optimistic. Flickr uses 200-250k image size for their default versions.
I just know that a friend of mine (http://omgkitties.wordpress.com) was going with the “upload to wordpress” method at the start and she ran into all kinds of headaches. Using Flickr from the start for hosting is a lot less time consuming in the long run.
