How to add custom button to Post form toolbar?

    I need to provide an extra button on the Post form toolbar. The action will be to offer a selection of thumbnails from a Convention photo gallery and allow the poster to choose one. Like the existing add image button, but with additional clickthrough functionality that will let the reader go to the Convention gallery website.

    I’ve been looking through the HTML and Javascript that make up the Post form, but I’ve got a bit lost. Can anyone point me in the right direction, either in the documentation or in the code, please?

    You need to be over here as this forum is for those blogs hosted here at WP.com and we run a different code base than what you are running.

    You may also want to mention which of the editors you are using as there are two different ones and the answers will differ depending on your answer.
