Gravatar PNG
-
Hi everyone,
I encounter a problem with the Gravatar service. When I upload a PNG image, this one appears very dark after cropping. I checked my Photoshop profiles (sRGB) and everything is OK. No problem when I use JPG, but this format seems less well resized by web browsers.
Example with a random image find on the net:
– Before upload: http://fr.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=153s3g4&s=8
– After upload: http://bit.ly/1Ce4DsQDoes anyone encountered this problem?
Thank you in advance.

That does seem strange.
Does the problem still occur if you flatten the PNG image before you upload it to Gravatar?

Yes, the problem persists even when the image is flattened. I just noticed that this darkening affects only the images in grayscale. The solution I found is to add some color pixels discreetly (dark blue instead black for example). Comical, but it works ;)

Very strange. I’m glad you found something that works. Thanks for letting us know about this problem.

I had the same issue! I’ll try the colour pixel “fix” later today (that is very strange behaviour, probably some kind of failed attempt at detecting & optimising greyscale images!)
