gavilan1010, this is your thread

  • Rudeness, language, and insults deleted – drmike

The user is having an issue with iframes along with javascripts and meta tags.

  • I read meta tags are dead and useless now. I think the code won’t go through because of the iframe. And Blogger blows since they listed my old site as a spam site. But Typepad better allow everything since we have to pay to have an account there. We all want something added that isn’t. Either it will one day or try your hand at hosting your site yourself, if you’re tech savie which most aren’t.

  • Well I didnt mean Meta Tags as in Meta Keywords and Description, I meant as in like, Google Site Maps that asks you to put a meta tag, Google Analytics, ect.. but thats not the problem, the problem is the chat widget, why cant I post it?

  • @gavilan
the wordpress.com MU multiuser platform is a shared blogging platform and that means we are all on it. So what we do can effect each other and that’s why we are limited. :)
The reason javascript, iframes, embeds, styles are stripped can be found in both the FAQs pink sticky at the head of the forum and in the FAQs blog.

    http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/07/javascript-can-i-use-that-on-my-blog/
In short their use would be a threat to security. BTW you will find this same answer again in the forum search box. This leads me to my next point. In the words of our intrepid Moderator drmike, “the search box is your friend”. :) http://wordpress.com/forums/search.php?q=google+analytics
And here’s search box on the “meebo” chat widget http://wordpress.com/forums/search.php?q=meebo
You can make the choice to host your own blog or go to webhosting and download a free wordpress blog. Here’s the information from the head of the forum in the pink sticky that says “please read me first before posting to the forum” http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=3700&replies=1

  • Please don’t shout. It’s as rude here as it’s elsewhere on the net. Please don’t do it again.

Timethief, you are not a moderator. Please remember that as well.

WordPress.com takes security seriously, moreso than other places on the net. iframes are a security risk. The topic has been discussed many times on the forum already and you are free to do a search and read the other threads on the subject and the FAQs on the subject. Your failure to have done show just shows your ignorance on the subject.

Please look at this way. If staff was to allow you to use iframes, you would put at risk the other 420k+ users here. Is that what you want?

You are free of course to also grab a copy of the WordPress software from http://wordpress.org and find your own host. There are other free blogging sites as well on teh net but most of them run security risks. Examples of this are covered in the other threads as well with links to articles on teh subject.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

  • First of all CAPS is not shouting, just making it clear, how the hell can I shout when its text.

2nd of all, I have friends that can give me hosting and a domain, but im too in to it now, you know how many people link to my wordpress sub-domain, and not to mention all the search engines, so moving would just be stupid, im in too deep to do something like that.

All im asking is like, what could happen with iframes? or Meta Tags? what is so wrong with that?

Meta tags make it easier for the hacker?

  • Meta tags are not current technology; it’s like using ASCII. They will do you no good.

Caps is the online equivalent of shouting, and it is considered rude to use them. Lower case or mixed-case text is the standard and all-caps is used when you wish to give the impression of shouting. If that’s not the impression you want to give, don’t do that.

If you want a chat solution, why not try Meebo? That one works perfectly well with WordPress. It’s my understanding that others don’t for security reasons.

  • OMG how many times do I have to say it

“Well I didnt mean Meta Tags as in Meta Keywords and Description, I meant as in like, Google Site Maps that asks you to put a meta tag, Google Analytics, ect..”

lots of services like those ask you to put Meta Tags in your header for confirmation

  • Sorry for shouting
  • Now

  • “All im asking is like, what could happen with iframes? or Meta Tags? what is so wrong with that?

Meta tags make it easier for the hacker?”
