Favicon.ico option please

Option to change the favicon would be awesome and add a real feel of customization

It’s been requested many, many times before. Can’t hurt to do it again, but I’m not holding my breath.

As rain says, I’m not holding my breath. It’s good advertising for wordpress. Anyone who goes to a wordpress.com blog – with or without domain mapping sees the wordpress “W”.

I agree, and it was also suggested back in 2007 https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/custom-favicon-and-feedicon/page/2?replies=43, so they really should have been working on this already. I have already designed my favicon just in case they announce one day that we can have one.
-
You are assuming that back in 2007, they decided to let people have their own favicon and have just been slow in implementing it. There is no evidence to support the case that they are either thinking about it, nor working on it.
-
OK, well…I wish they should have been think or working on it…? Sorry for the careless assumption on my part.
-
Well, about all we can do with any suggestion sent in to staff is assume really. They seldom give hints one way or another.
-
Damnit I didn’t know I couldn’t do that when I signed up. A custom favicon is important to me–my blog has a very distinctive and recognizable one. I’m really disappointed by this. I guess I’ll send a suggestion myself so they get the impression this is very much wanted.
-
Yikes.. Brand your site and everything you do with your logo (your logo is the same graphic as your favicon, right?).

Using Google Chrome’s new “Create application shortcut…” feature makes for a very ugly desktop WordPress icon. At the very least, WP should upgrade their icon with a 64×64 True Color version (and other versions) so that when people do see that distinctive W it actually looks decent.

It looks simple to do this if you run the wordpress software yourself.

Is it conclusively not possible to change it if WordPress is hosting the blog? That would be extremely lame, especially for those of us who sprang for the domain mapping.
