Domain connections
-
Hello,
I am trying to use a domain I own on Godaddy. When I go to upgrades, domains, and choose use a domain I own …and select connect your domains it gives a plan of 96 euros payment! Isn’t it possible to use the domain I already own for free on WordPress?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,

You can just forward your domain to your wordpress.com website but the URL shown in the addressbar will be drawingscript.wordpress.com instead of your custom domain.

You have to login to your Godaddy account to forward your domain to your wordpress.com site.

Hi @mohvey
To be able to use a custom site address (your GoDaddy domain for example) you will need to upgrade to one of the plans mentioned here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
There is no option for using a custom site address other than to use one of these plans, but if cost is an issue you can consider the Personal Plan (instead of the Premium Plan) and can choose monthly billing instead of yearly billing to reduce your up-front cost.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Hi,
But this article https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/ says it is possible!

From the article you linked:
Connecting a domain is free with any WordPress.com plan.
We probably should add “any paid plan” to avoid misunderstandings. As @staff-totoro mentioned above, you need to upgrade your plan to be able to connect a custom domain.

‘Any WordPress.com plan’ is linked to the page with all paid plans, https://wordpress.com/pricing/

@staff-mckluskey this is the second time I’ve seen that specific wording causing a misunderstanding about the cost of domain connection. Can the related support document please be updated to include the word “paid” or “upgrade” to avoid misunderstandings? TIA

No problem! I’ve just updated that. https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/ If there’s anything else that could use a tweak – let us know! :)
