“Domain connection expired” but the domain has not expired
-
Hello,
I checked my website the other day and got the following message:
“ “Blanche Ellis” is not available at the domain blancheellis.com right now. There’s a problem with the mapping for this domain. If you are the site owner, please log into your WordPress.com account for more information. “I checked my domain with my domain provider (123reg, not WordPress) and it is still current and paid for. It is on automatic renewal, and not due to renew for another few months. I contacted them and they say the domain working as normal, still owned by me and not expired. That the problem must be with WordPress.
Looking into my WordPress domain settings, under “Details” it says:
“Domain connection expired on February 6, 2024”.
Questions:
1) What does it mean if the “domain connection” has expired, but the domain is working/current?
2) How can I solve this issue, or “mapping problem“, and get my WordPress back online, and connected to my working domain (blancheellis.com) ?
Thank you!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I’ve checked your site and dashboard and could not find that message. The domain is working correctly and pointing to your WordPress.com content.
From what I can see, the domain is renewed until September 2024 at 123Reg, and your domain connection is set to auto-renew alongside your Starter plan in August 2024, as you can see on the domain settings here.
Could you share the URL of the page where you are seeing that message?
Thanks!

Hi, thank you for your reply!
However, the website you link to is my other website “blancheillustrates.com” whereas the issue i’m having is with blancheellis.com. Below are screenshots of the message saying the “domain connection expired” and the DNS settings also.I have now enabled the TXT settings wondering if that was the issue but unfortunately it still persists and I still get the message below when I try to load the site.
Again, thank you for any help on this!

Hi,
You’re welcome! I can see that the domain blancheellis.com is owned by another WordPress.com account.
While logged into this other account, you can go to https://wordpress.com/me/purchases, select the domain connection for blancheellis.com and then renew the domain connection using the “Renew now” link.
Hope this helps. If you need further assistance with this, don’t hesitate to let us know!

Thank you again for your help. I’m still stuck, however.
I am managing the dashboards of all 3 of my WordPress sites (screenshot below) through this same account; building the website, etc. You can see the top left corner that I am logged into blancheellis.com at the back end). I don’t understand how I can manage it through this account and also another account, surely it would be one or the other? If it is another account (as I started blancheellis.com some years earlier blancheillustrates.com) I don’t have records of other login details. How would I find the correct account details to be able to log in to that account?
I sign in with the details I have for blancheellis.com and it always takes me back to this same dashboard with all my websites.
Thank you again for your help.

Access to manage purchased items for a website requires logging into the account that made the purchase, ensuring security by not sharing purchase details with others. Since your user account added the domain connection for “blancheillustrates.com,” you can manage that purchase from your @blancheillustrates user account. However, the domain connection for “blancheellis.com” was purchased by a different Administrator on the account. As you’re also an Administrator, you can view the account owner from your Team page: https://wordpress.com/people/team/blancheellis.com
If you don’t recall the password you set for that account, you can reset it here, and an email will be sent to the email address on file for that account: https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
I hope this clears things up! Let us know if you have any further questions.

Hello, Thank you again for your answers.
I now understand that the website was originally purchased by the account: @Blancheellis which I would have started in 2012 when I set up blancheellis.com.
I tried old passwords to enter, but it’s incorrect, when I try to change the password it says I will receive a link by email to do so but I never receive the email (also checking the spam folder). This means it must be going to an ancient hotmail, that no longer have access to. I have spent the last few days trying to gain access to this email account via Microsoft but with no success. So, I just need access to pay the $13 to renew this site (with 12 years worth of content) but I don’t have access to the email I set it up with in 2012.
What other ways can I use to access it and prove ownership? Or how can I escalate this so I can prove ownership using my identity, old bank details etc, or in other ways than in the original email address?
Thank you, once more, for your help.
