Does wordpress allow podcast embeds from ANY provider?
-
I’m starting a podcast and was looking which provider to go with, but can’t find any that I can embed on my wordpress.com site. Is that right? There aren’t any?
If you know of one i’d really appreciate it.
(I know I can host podcasts on wordpress, but don’t want to, so please don’t suggest this!)
Appreciate any help you can give :)

Hi, so you’re looking to embed audio? We have some options here:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/image-block/#add-audio
This too:
https://wordpress.com/support/add-media/radiopublic-podcast-embeds/And this:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/podcast-player-block/Want to see if any of those work for you?

Thanks so much @supernovia. Option 3 is the closest for me – is there any way of being able to select just one episode or is that not possible?
Thanks :)

You can set the number of episodes that must display from the block settings:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/podcast-player-block/#block-settings
-
That’s not possible with this block, no. This block embeds podcasts via an RSS feed, so it will always show the most recent posts in the feed.
If you’re hosting your entire podcast somewhere else, then you’d likely need to link to your episodes on that service from your WordPress.com posts, rather than embed.
For embedding we only offer the option to embed the entire feed, or the actual audio files themselves (the latter would mean the podcast is hosted with us, even if the files themselves are not). We don’t have an option to embed single podcast episodes hosted at other podcasting providers, except for RadioPublic.
-
In this case we are limited by the options other services provide.
Embedding single episodes can be done in two ways: using HTML or using something called oEmbed, where you just paste in a link to the episode.
HTML embeds are not possible except on our Business Plan, because the HTML code these use is blocked on our end for security reasons.
So to offer embeds for a service they need to support the oEmbed protocol, and then their embeds either need to be supported in the WordPress software itself, or they need to contact us to request we whitelist their service specifically for WordPress.com.
At the moment, RadioPublic is the only podcasting service that both offers oEmbed, and is whitelisted with us in this way, but the open source WordPress project on WordPress.org is constantly adding support for new services as they become available.
