When I try to update the name servers via my registrar, I get the following error:

You might need a zone record added & the auto zone function might have not worked
I have flagged this for the staff to help

If I could jump in on this too, I seem to be having issues with lethbridgedragonfest.ca and the zone record is the most relevant potential issue that I’ve found so far.
I reluctantly changed the nameservers to WordPress.com’s; it’s not clearly explained (anywhere that I’ve found) why that’s necessary. Since that change, access to the site has been inconsistent.

Is someone looking into this?!
I need a resolution soon, or else I have to find another host for the website! -

This is unacceptable. We have now found another way around the issue and will not be paying WordPress for domain mapping.

Hi there,
Sorry for the late reply! I have added a zone record for your domain. If you would like to map it to your WordPress.com site you may. :)
@lethbridgedragonfest-
It looks like everything is up and running! Sometimes it can take a few days to propagate.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
