Delete one photo from gallery
-
Just wondering. After I have made a gallery for my blog, is there a way to delete just one of the photos from the gallery and leave the rest as they are. Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. To delete one picture from the gallery (but also from the media library), follow the support documentation’s instructions:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/#editing-a-galleryAt step 4, when you click on “Show”, you’ll have an option near the bottom to “Delete” the picture. Don’t forget to save your changes. Hope it helps!

At the bottom of that same support page there is information about excluding a picture from a gallery

I really did not want to delete the picture from the media library.. just from the gallery. Anyway, I did delete the picture in question and I will now re add it to the media gallery to be used somewhere else. Thanks for the suggestions.

Deleting a picture from a Gallery should not remove it from the Media Library.
If you delete a picture from the Media Library then it would be gone from both the Media Library and the Gallery.
A bit confusing yes.

You can “unattach” photos from a post, which will remove it from the gallery for that particular post.

– thesacredpath, the page you linked to does not mention anything about ‘un’attaching a photo, not that I can see anyway. Also when I go into my Media Library and hover over any of my attached images I do not see any option for ‘un’attaching. From everything I can see you would have to go into the post and delete the image from the post it is attached to in order to unattach it.
– auxclass, any time I try deleting an image from a gallery it does remove it from my media library too.
– sistersthree, near the bottom of the help page airodyssey mentioned –
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/
there is information about ‘excluding’ an image from a gallery, this does not delete the image, it just tells the ‘gallery’ not to use that image when creating the gallery.
I am still learning about galleries too but this is all the information I have learned so far from all the different support pages, forum topics, and blog posts I have read.

Oops, my bad. You can “attach” images that are unattached, but you cannot “unattach” attached images. I’m sorry, I thought you could.

I stand corrected – just made a gallery and deleted one picture from the gallery and the picture also deleted at the same time from the media library – I was sure it worked differently –
sorry for the error –

You can exclude a picture
[gallery exclude="544"]
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/ Look down at the bottom of the page in the gallery short code – you will need to work the code in the html mode.
this did work in a test site this time

You know, I can’t understand why if we can attach photos at media library > library, why we cannot unattach them. I can see instances where that would be extremely useful (such as this case) without having to either delete the image or exclude it via the shortcode.
Perhaps someone should suggest this to staff. At first thought, it doesn’t seem like it would be that be of deal to add that capability.

Ok… I figured out how to exclude a photo from a gallery.. thanks for the advice. :-)
Now I have another gallery issue. I wish to place a second (different photos) gallery in the same post. How do I clear the photos already in the gallery. I tried to click on the clear link at the top… but nothing cleared.
Any suggestions. -
sistersthree, Justjennifer has some really good information about adding another gallery in the same post, in her unofficial gallery FAQ post:

@countrycinderella… thank you for the link.. lots of great gallery info there.
But, truth be told, I simply got fed up with the gallery headaches and decided to go with tables instead. :-)
