creating a discussion page
-
Is there a way to create a page for discussion – with separate topics instead of one long comment stream?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
No, that’s not the way static pages are designed to work. If you wish you can create and publish posts on different topics and allow comments on the posts – that’s the way posts are designed to work.
If that does not suit then have you considered searching the internet and getting either a free forum and linking to it from your blog? (Note: All forums require a critical mass of regular posters in order to be viable. )

A WordPress blog can either be structured as a page based website or its conventional post based structure can be retained. That’s why understanding the the differences between posts and pages is key to decision making when selecting a theme, and setting up your WordPress.com blog.

@waxings, just a suggestion, but you could set up a separate blog for discussions and then put the discussion topics in posts on that blog. Then people could partake in the discussions. You could then link to that discussion blog from your main blog and from that one back to the main.
If you do the above, on the discussion blog, you might want to think about having a static front page and then you could list the discussions with short intros and give links to those posts.
Alternately you could set up a free forum somewhere on the internet for the discussion purposes. There are a number of free forum hosts out there. Some of them will insert ads into the discussion threads as a way to help pay for the service.

Is there any way that all Comments in the Pages should always approved and automatically shown right away in the forum rather than the author/administrator should always approved and apply?
Thanks. -
Yes, under settings > discussion you can set it so that no moderation is required. I would though, suggest keeping it set so that any comment with more than two links is automatically held for moderation. That is a second line of defense against spammer who typically will put multiple links into comments.

Thanks so much timethief and thesacredpath – you’ve both made very helpful suggestions. I might go with the separate blog for discussion idea (deep breath)
