  Hi there,

  If possible, I would recommend building your site with your desired domain. You can load post and pages to your free site here at WordPress.com and export files somewhere else later. But, I would not spend a ton of time customizing your theme as that would not be porting over with you. (If later you are on a self-hosted WordPress site, you would need to use a WordPress.org theme.)
