Compressing images & those already published

    Hello,

    I blog at http://vohnmcg.com and have noticed it is very slow to upload my images to WordPress.com in the past month. I reckon it is probably because I haven’t compressed them and my typical file size is 1.4MB per image. My question is twofold…

    1) How am I best to compress the file size of my images? I see wordpress.org recommends a file size of 60-100KB. Is this the same for WordPress.com and how do I do that?
    2) Once I know how to compress my images, can I go back and do that for images already published, or do I need to re-load them all and will this cause problems for other sites that already have links to them (e.g. in the blogger challenges I have entered where they are now on someone else’s website and on Facebook etc)?
