comment spam prevention

    Trying to sign up for the Akismet API key and when I try to, I get ‘Comment Spam Prevention’ in the title of the tab in Firefox and the error: ‘
    Whoops!

    An unexpected error has occurred while signing in. Can you please try again?’

    How to get past this? I’ve cleared cookies and history.

    Hi there,
    You don’t need the signup if you have a WordPress.com account, you use the same account and create an API key. Hope you have verified your account with WordPress.com.
    If your site is hosted by WordPress.com, then you don’t need an Akismet API key. All the blogs hosted by WordPress.com are protected from spam by default with Akismet.

    If you are still having issues creating a API key, do try from a different browser or from a different internet connection. That should fix the issue.
