Changing Themes
-
I wanna change my theme. But whenever I change it it doesn’t keep my sidebar. I like having my sidebar. Now I’m back to my old theme and my sidebar widgets are gone
Does that mean i have to readd all the widgets for my sidebar again. I really didn’t wanna have to go through that again
Are there any nice themes with sidebars that will still keep it when change themes
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi! In general when changing a theme, the widgets don’t get carried over; but they’re instead moved into an ‘inactive widgets’ area. You can generally move them from that ‘inactive’ area back to your sidebar after switching the theme over. That’s typically available when you go to Appearance > Widgets.
I can see that you’re using the Cerauno theme at the moment; was there any particular theme that you were interested in, that also has a sidebar?

So the widgets aren’t technically gone just hidden
I was looking at the themes but so many to choose from. I just want a nice standout theme for my blog
Any suggestions

Hey there,
So the widgets aren’t technically gone just hidden
That’s correct, upon choosing a theme, you could then click and drag them from inactive to the new widget areas.
Also when changing themes does it delete your content?I know it can happen sometimes
No, changing themes doesn’t affect the content.
I just want a nice standout theme for my blog
Cool! Is there a blog out there you like the look of? Maybe we can offer some advice?

And how would I move them back to my sidebar
There was a few I seen that I liked but I don’t remember the names of them

And how would I move them back to my sidebar
If you’re using a theme that supports sidebar widgets, then you can add them back at any point. Start here: https://imanissm.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php
and then click on Widgets – Sidebar 1 – Add.
The current theme does use sidebars and widgets so you’re all set. Write back if you need anything else. -

You have the freedom to switch to any theme of your choice from our Themes page, which can be accessed at the following link: https://wordpress.com/themes
Each theme on the page comes with a demo that showcases how it looks and feels. Additionally, you can use the search function to filter themes by feature, number of sidebars, and other specifications. It’s important to note that some themes may only be available on certain paid plans or may require a purchase.
If you encounter any issues during the process, we’re here to assist you. However, the ultimate decision of which theme to use lies entirely with you. :)

Hey there,
These themes here have a sidebar:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/left-sidebar/imanissm.wordpress.com
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/right-sidebar/imanissm.wordpress.comI get the sense you’re perhaps building a magazine style site, is that correct? If yes, these may also be of interest too:

I hope this helps.

I’m adding my widgets back and reorganizing them manually again since I lost them when changing themes. But is there a way to add them back automatically instead of manually. And what happened to the community widget where it displays members from wordpress community
-
I can see that there’s a ton of inactive widgets on the site. Go here: https://imanissm.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php and scroll to the very bottom of that page, click on Inactive Widgets. I’m not familiar with the community widget that is mentioned. When I search for that text in the widgets nothing exists. Can you tell me more about what this widget was doing for your site? Perhaps that will help me locate it for you.
My advice is that you keep the number of widgets manageable, and less than 10. The reason is that these can sometimes cause site performance issues, or not load properly if somebody is using an older version of a browser to view the site. -
ok
The community widget used to show all the members who interact with your site. That’s what it used to be called unless they changed it or removed it. I don’t see it either when I search for it
Also for the upcoming events and RSS widget how do I get the links for those to display
-
Hi there,
We do not offer a “community” widget, or a widget that shows your followers, but you may be referring to this widget which shows recent activity by folks commenting on your site: https://wordpress.com/support/widgets/recent-comments-widget/
Also for the upcoming events and RSS widget how do I get the links for those to display
We have guides for setting up both of those widgets here:
- https://wordpress.com/support/widgets/upcoming-events/
Also as my colleage noted above, you have a lot of “inactive widgets” on this page: https://imanissm.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php
You can reactivate any widget you see in the “inactive widgets” section and this will add it back to your site, no need to set it up again.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
