Change ‘blog’ in permalinks

  • Hi, I must be losing my mind, but I am 99% certain there used to be the ability to change the word ‘blog’ in the permalink structure and now it looks like its set permanently set to ‘blog’. Is there anyway to change this? I am fairly certain I had this set to ‘events’ and now it’s reverted to blog.

    WP.com: Unknown
    Jetpack: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

  • Hi @rmwsb, you certainly weren’t imagining it. Here’s how to change it:

    – Publish a new, blank page with the name you’d like: https://wordpress.com/page

    – Use Customize > Front Page Settings to set that as your posts page

    – Update your menu as needed

Another option is to not have a traditional posts page, and link to categories or use the blog posts block as needed, but those steps above will give you a blog page with a url that is not “/blog”

    Hoping that helps!

  • Hi @supernovia, thanks for the reply! I already have that set up. The “blog” page is set to my “events” pages. This does not change the URL for the posts. I apologize as I was not clear on that.

The URL structure currently looks like this: /blog/my-event-name. I do not want the word “blog” in the URL but rather /events/my-event-name.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Ok, your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted elsewhere.

Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can find more information here about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

https://wordpress.org/support/ is a great resource for sites using the open source WordPress.org software, and you can find support for that at: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

Your hosting provider’s support team may also be able to assist.
