Can't Edit Site

  • Hello,

I was hired by a woman to oversee the website for her company, but when I got the login info for her website, I have zero options to edit anything for the site. I am able to login to the site with the wp-admin login, and when I click “visit site” it takes me there, however, in the Dashboard there are no widgets or anything below “Profile”. When i go to the page and am logged in, the top tool bar does not have any “Edit Page” option either.

I have never had this issue before and can’t find it in any forums. Could it be that the login she gave me does not have admin privileges? All I want to do is be able to update the site but that’s not an option.

  • Hi tmarroyo!

It sounds like your client gave you login details that does not have Admin privileges. There are five different user roles and each one have different capabilities. Just check with her again to see if she gave you the right details.

You can find out more about the different user roles here, https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

  • Thank you, epoolman! I figured that could be the case, but wanted to throw it out there in case I was missing something.

One issue we’re having is getting a hold of her previous content manager that had all the logins for everything. In the worst case scenario, if we never get a hold of him, is there a way to change those admin roles through siteground or the C Panel? I do have those logins that seem to work.

Thanks again for clarifying my first question.

  • Pleasure! There is a way to change the login details in the WordPress database on Siteground, but you will have to post in the WordPress.org forums (https://wordpress.org/support/) as self-hosted blogs are provided through WordPress.org.
