Blog Scraping & the American Registry of Internet Numbers (ARIN)
-
I’ve been reading through the topics about blog scrapping, because it seems like my blog is getting scrapped. My site is http://sportsagent.wordpress.com and the offending blog is
h**p://exercisearticles.info/?p=2389 and h**p://investingpower.info/?p=1495. Both blogs have the same IP address which is 74.86.145.51. When i check their WHOIS information, i see that it is some company in Dallas. Should I be trying to contact them to tell them to stop, or these ARIN people? If anyone who is more knowledgeable about this can tell me what to do, i’d greatly appreciate it. -
ARIN won’t help you. You should contact copyright violators directly and, if that doesn’t work, contact the company who sells their ads, or their web host.

There isn’t really anything you can do from stopping people from stealing your stuff, I fear, except stop publishing online.
You can take your blog totally private or do as I did and send only a truncated RSS feed. Laming feeds seems to help a bit because the scrapers prefer to pull down full content.
I’ve written about various aspects of this on my blog if you care to read and weep a little more:

“There have been a lot of questions recently about how to deal with blog scrapers, and i thought it might be useful to put up a step-by-step guide for sending a DMCA notice (or not).”

Can we put wordpress on notice that someone is using our content in violation of copyright? Seems to me it should constitute a TOS violation.
This is the guy who just scraped my “Night at the Dunk” post. No attribution.
My blog is:

There is nothing we can do, but the forums do contain all the information needed to go after the pondlife that does this. -
WordPress won’t do anything about it. Protecting your copyright is your responsibility. That blog is not hosted by WordPress.com, they just downloaded WordPress software and are using it in their own webspace. You need to deal with them directly, or if you can’t find contact info for them, deal with their web hosts.
