Block editor and zip files
-
Hi there.
I can’t upload ZIP files when using the block editor, but I can when I using the classic editor*.
Is this a known issue?*FYI I have the Premium plan. ;)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
If you’re using the block editor on WordPress.com, the File block is not yet available. To use the File block and upload ZIP files, you need to switch to the WP Admin interface for now.

Hi, @fstat :)
The File block is really available, as stated in this Support article:I can upload files (PDFs, MS Word docx, etc.), using the block editor. But I can not upload ZIP files.
Screenshot (PDF successfully uploaded):
Screenshot (ZIP not supported):
So, is it a bug?

I saw this thread yesterday: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/file-block-disappeared/

Hah! That makes things more interesting. So:
The file block editor is currently disabled for the version of Gutenberg at wordpress.com/post
The core version is not disabled in wp-admin, but we still need to create our Automattic-specific one.
Are you still able to utilize the classic editor for this, @galois?
-
Yes, @supernovia
I just uploaded two files with the block editor: a docx and a pdf. Right now. -
And I can upload any* file with both editors: the wp-admin editor (Visual or HTML), and the new Gutenberg block editor.
*But with the block editor, I can not upload ZIP files, as I wrote in the first message.

Right, sorry. To clarify I meant to ask if you’re able to upload a .zip with the classic (non-block) editor. Can you give that a go in the meantime?

Thanks, I think it’s likely involved with the other bug.
You can follow that here:
https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/29299and let us know if you run into anything else. Thanks Galois!

I don’t have an update at this time, but the team is looking at it. The best place to follow along is in the report at https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/29299.

The problem with zip files still continues. And the thread in GitHub referenced by @staff-zinnia & @supernovia is closed and marked as resolved.
I can only upload zip files with the “classic” editor (whith the WP Admin interface), but not with the block editor. However, I can upload other files with the block editor: images, docx, PDFs, pptx, xlsx etc.

Hi @galois,
What is in the .zip you’re trying to upload?
I just tested and can upload a .zip containing multiple .txt files without problem using the File Block from the My Sites editor.
But if a .zip contains file types not allowed on WordPress.com, e.g. .exe files, the .zip itself will be blocked from uploading – it should be blocked from both My Sites and WP-Admin in that case.

Hi, @kokkieh
What is in the .zip you’re trying to upload?
Only images. It’s a zip that contains several PNGs and JPG(s) of my Flickr account.
The notice says “Sorry, for security reasons this type of files is not allowed.”
The same thing happens with another zip that contains audio files. -
Where did you get those images? Are they downloaded elsewhere, or did you export them from image editing software of some kind? Same with the audio files – are the downloaded or did you create them yourself?
If you’re willing to share the files with me, please upload the .zip folders to https://www.dropbox.com/request/hWe9kXFEYp57uJhKBs3W then I can do some testing on my end as well.

The images are from my Flickr account. The audio files are from a CD.
The error messages only appear when I use the block editor:
If you’re willing to share the files with me, please upload the .zip folders to https://www.dropbox.com/request/hWe9kXFEYp57uJhKBs3W then I can do some testing on my end as well.
Done! And thanks. :)
