Background image has a darkend tint over it

I uploaded a custom background image on my site, and it appears to have a darkened tint on it. Is there something I am missing, how can I removed this tint?

Hi there, I did a little research and found this earlier forum thread that will help as long as you have a WordPress.com upgrade plan that allows you to edit the theme’s CSS:

Hello All,

Under my paid plan, the lowest tier, I am unable to edit the CSS. Unless there is another way, it appears that I may need to change my theme. Such a pity because I have it perfect aside from the tint.

Yes, you’ll need the higher-tier paid plan with the ability to edit CSS in order to remove the tint. Things may change in the future, but the only other option is to change themes.
