Allowing certain commenters to use pseudonyms
-
Is there any way I can approve pseudonyms for commenters who want to remain anonymous? Right now I allow anonymous comments on http://www.danwoog06880.com, but some of the discussions get pretty nasty. I don’t want all commenters to have register — I’m not sure how well that works. Any thoughts? Any ideas on how I can allow pseudonyms for those who request it?

I don’t have any suggestions as I don’t approve and post any “nastiness” ie. personal attacks and/or defamatory statements at all on my blogs. I don’t allow that behavior in my home either.
I have zero tolerance for trolls, loud mouthed asshats and primitive thinkers with low IQs and inflated egos. It’s my opinion that the best way to compel people to behave responsibly online is not to allow anonymity. The sooner people the fact that they are legally responsible and accountable for what they post anywhere online the better.

THANKS, Timethief. I understand not allowing anonymity. But how do you ensure that people are who they claim to be? Isn’t it easy to use a fake name?

Why does their offline identity matter to you? Studies have not found a correlation between using real names and behaving well.

Raincoaster, I disagree. The commenters on my blog who use real names are much more civil than those who do not.

@raincoaster
My company is due back any minute so I have to log out. I’d be delighted if your shared links to the research you refer to above.
