misslynar, RSS feeds allow people to read your blog without actually visiting your site, by using a feedreader (for example, Google’s feed reader at reader.google.com). Every time you write a new post, it is marked in your RSS feed, and if someone subscribes to your RSS feed, they will see the update in their reader.
Your RSS feed is:
http://allaboutrenton.wordpress.com/feed/Comments written to your blog are also given an RSS feed:
http://allaboutrenton.wordpress.com/comments/feed/ -
My suggestion would be to use a text widget and then put the necessary HTML in it to show the RSS icon linked to your blog as explained in this FAQ: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/put-your-feed-in-your-sidebar/ .
An easier alternative to writing the HTML your self is to get the URL of the icon you want to use, then start a new post in the post editor, insert that image via the “from URL” tab in the insert image window, and then in the “file URL” field, put the link to your RSS feed which is http://www.allaboutrenton.wordpress.com/feed/ . You can also add something like “Subscribe to my feed” after you have inserted and linked the icon. Next, switch to the HTML tab in the editor, copy out everything in that window and paste it into a text widget in your sidebar.

Hi. This isn’t working for me in Safari 4. I use the url:
And get this error message:
Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “feed://windyandmarisa.wordpress.com/feed/”. The error is: “The feed could not be loaded because the content is not in a known feed format.” (PubSub:2) Please choose Safari > Report Bugs to Apple, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message. Is it possible that the RSS feed isn’t working because my blog is private and only visible to me and one other person?
Thanks for any advice!

http://windyandmarisa.wordpress.com is set to private. You cannot have an RSS feed on a private blog since it defeats the purpose of having a blog set to private.

Makes sense. I wonder what best way to make my blog RSS-able yet only viewable to myself and one other person. Seems like we could set every single post to private or pw only, which would be a bit of a pain.
Thans for your help!

If you did that, you STILL wouldn’t have an RSS feed. I believe if it was passworded, you’d get an empty entry in the feed, pretty useless.
