Adding a pinterest follow button on blog
-
I am new to blogging and want to add a Pinterest button so readers can follow my Pinterest boards. I was able to add the button, but how do I link it to my Pinterest account?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You cannot use the widget but you can capture an image of the button, link it to your profile page at Pinterest and post it in an image widget or text widget in your sidebar on your blog. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/pinterest

Hi Patiopeaks: It’s easy.
Pinterest has HTML code for the button.
Go to this site, choose which one of the red Follow Me images you want, and copy it. http://pinterest.com/about/goodies/
Then, go to your widgets and pick Text/HTML. (arbitrary text or html)
Paste the code into the widget, save the widget, close the widget and put it where you want in your sidebar (only works in sidebar). It should look like this one on the sidebar of my blog (or a version of it from the Pinterest site) http://sketchesandjottings.wordpress.com

Hi
is it possible to add pinterest as a sharing service as well. So readers can pin our blog post to pinterest?

jaw501: thank you! so helpful!
Another question:
Can you add the “Pin it” button under each post? (it’s looks just like the facebook like button, but it pins and individual post onto pintrest)Also, can you add the facebook like button for each post?
Thanks!

@jaynaoldatheart: The “Pin it” button cannot be inserted at the moment because it contains code that is not accepted by WordPress.com, sorry.
As for your question re: Facebook, that’s off-topic but I’ll leave you the link this time :-)

After a lot of work and some test trials, I figured out a semi-easy way to insert a pin it! button into my wordpress.com blog. I wrote a post about it that gives step by step directions. Hope this helps my fellow wordpress.com-ers!

You can put the code for the Pinterest follow button in a text widget.
1. Go to this site, choose which one of the red Follow Me images you want, and copy the code for it. http://pinterest.com/about/goodies/
2. Then, go to your widgets > Appearance > Widgets and select a text widget.http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/
3. Paste the Pinterest follow button code into the text widget, “save” the widget, “close” the widget and place it where you want it to display in your sidebar.

naomiburton – Hooray for you, and for posting it. I’ve never seen a description of how to offer followers a Pin It button on your WP site. That’s something we’re all looking for. Thank you very much.
IMPORTANT NOTE: What Noamaburton is describing how to do is completely different than putting a Follow Me On Pinterest button in the widget on your sidebar. How to insert the Follow Me button is also described in this Forum post.

Hello. Thank you for your post. I have been attempting to add the Pinterest button as well as add other widgets on my blog and can’t seem to get them to save. I followed the directions….opened my widgets, dragged the text box to Sidebar two (I also tried sidebar 1), pasted the “Follow Me On Pinterest” image code and pressed save and closed the widget. When I go back to view my page, it is not on there; also when I open my widgets again, the text box is no longer in my sidebar. Has any one else struggled with this issue? I’m not sure what I am doing wrong. Thanks so much for your help!

@somethingsweet…: “The directions” is not very specific. What directions did you follow? Where did you find them? Here on the forums or on Pinterest’s website?

@somethingsweet…: Jaw501 may not have been clear about this, but if you are copying the entire HTML code on Pinterest’s website, you need to use a text widget. Could you try with a text widget please?

@naomiburton You rock so hard!! While cumbersome, your procedure works beautifully! It should be fine until wordpress.com adds it as a follow button like facebook, twitter or stumbleupon. Thank you!

Thanks jaw501! It worked for me too! WordPress really needs to update the Widgets though. Pinterest is a major social media tool now.
