Account Recovery Domain Transfer
-
Hi, I really need help.
After making edits to a WordPress website for a client, we decided to transfer her to a more straightforward builder at Carrd.co that she could self-maintain. I helped her transfer the domain of her WordPress site to Carrdo.co to the new builder. So it is now connected.
The problem is that I had no idea that I wouldn’t be able to access her WordPress account anymore after switching the domain URL. This is a HUGE problem. I still need access to the WordPress site because we need to use that content for the new site.
Plus, the client is still paying for hosting, and she is still paying to operate her WordPress account, so she needs to have evergreen access in case she wants to complete her WordPress website in the future.
I tried to use account recovery, but I hadn’t saved the information from the account because I didn’t know it would disconnect the account. So I can’t recover account.

Hey @visforvashti, could you send us the URL for the site, even if it’s at the old address? We’ll see if we can help you get this sorted.

Hi @supernovia, sure.
The URL is dawnbranchworks.com (but it is now connected to the new website.)
The admin link I was using was https://dawnbranchworks.com/wp-admin/ . I have the password, but I don’t feel comfortable sharing that here.
Thanks so much for your help, because everything I’ve tried is a loss to log back into the dashboard.

Hello there,
https://dawnbranchworks.com is not hosted with us on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress software at another hosting provider. This is a bit different to a site hosted on WordPress.com. You can read about these differences here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
It means we’re unable to help with this site.
To gain access to this site you would need to contact the hosting provider: doteasy.com
I hope this helps.

@visforvashti — I’d been looking into your case a bit and was surprised to hear it was a .org site, still:
The problem is that I had no idea that I wouldn’t be able to access her WordPress account anymore after switching the domain URL. This is a HUGE problem. I still need access to the WordPress site because we need to use that content for the new site.
If you still need help with this and can access their hosting, maybe this would help?
https://wordpress.org/support/article/changing-the-site-url/If it were here on our services we’d have different steps, but I’ve seen that situation enough to be aware of it.
Also: would you mind if we reached out to you? We’d be interested in your feedback.
