2014 theme – how do I create a blog archive page?

  • Hi – I would like to have a separate page which will display all my historical posts. Currently my home page is set up to show only one post i.e. the most current post. However I would like my readers to be able to click on the Archive page to access all previous posts. How do I do this? Thank you!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hey there,

You could achieve this through the use of either Category Pages or the Display Posts Shortcode.

Using Category Pages, you would assign a specific Category, ie. “Archives” to every post you would like to display within your Archives page. You will then create a Category menu item that will be associated with this page. For information and direction on how to do so please review the following documentation: https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/.

As an alternative, you could simply create a new page called Archives, assign it to your main menu and embed the Display Posts Shortcode within it, targeting only posts you would like display based on there IDs. For more information on this process please follow this link: https://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/.

Unfortunately in either case you will have to manually add/remove the posts when necessary, it will not automatically update with the older posts in the Archives page when a new one is created.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers

  • Hi – I have managed to create an archive page which I have called Past Posts. I added a new page and inserted the shortcut code….. [archives]
This looks like it will automatically list my posts with the latest one on top and the oldest at the bottom.
Do you know of any other short cut code that I could insert that would automatically group the posts by a specific tag and allow me to add in an image for the grouped posts?
    Thanks again!

  • You bet, using the Display Posts Shortcode, here is the link again: https://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/ you can display posts based on their author, id, tag, and much more.

Let me know if it works out for you!

    Cheers
