On top can be a feeling, a perspective, or a physical location.
I saw these pelicans in San Diego, and they sure saw me, too. Their sheer size when compared to the sea gull next to them is pretty striking, and their full wing span is impressive. I’m not sure how sharp their beaks are. The one on the left stared me down, and though I haven’t heard much about violent pelicans, I didn’t want to press my luck. I wouldn’t have been able to get as close to them if they hadn’t been on top of this beach shack close to some fisherman who were undoubtably helping the pelicans get dinner.
In a post created specifically for this challenge, share a photo that means On Top!
I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
– Sara Rosso
Everytime I see them – I call them pterodactyl’s…. When they fly in groups, it is even scarier!

SO funny…my girlfriend calls them the pterodactyl’s too, especially when they dive bomb for fish in the surf….never heard anyone else call them that!

wow – cool that you mentioned this because watching a pelican “dive bomb” – is stunning and it is a wonder to watch! And this photo of pelicans “on top” of the roof is just cool – with the blue sky, a bit of preening going on – and then the ‘keep clear’ written in the lower left – 🙂

That was a cool photo! My friend has a similar one, although the monkey on that photo was doing something far more malicious than just eating. 😛

Question: do we post the link to our response here in the comments or do we just include the pingback? Still a bit confused with The Daily Post revamp…
I feature a wind vane that is probably not a wind vane in my response: http://maraeastern.com/2014/04/18/weekly-photo-challenge-on-top/.

I’m really excited for this week’s theme! As a mountaineer, there are a lot of moments that put me “on top” and I cannot wait to share them. I will post as soon as I can. In the meantime, I’m checking out some of the great submissions. Have fun everyone! And a good day to you all! 🙂

I took this week’s challenge a bit literally. But I’ve never felt more “on top” than on this day on a trip to the mountainous region of China, Yunnan.
