Fleeting. After reading Danielle’s post on the philosophy of photography — and her thoughts on taking photos to help us be more present and mindful — I’ve been thinking a lot about the fleeting moments in our days, and in our lives. The quiet, precious moments between the ones we love. A hummingbird in the backyard, among the blossoms. Chalk art on the sidewalk, with broken bits of colorful chalk left there, by the kids in the neighborhood. Or perhaps a glimpse into a rare occasion: A friend who never dances, grooving around on the dance floor. Forty-thousand fans cheering in a stadium, after a pitcher hits a grand slam. Or the sight of a double rainbow.
Fleeting may also make you think of movement and change. I took the photograph above near the Alexanderplatz train station in Berlin, Germany, one evening. It’s a busy station, and I enjoyed standing in one spot for a while, watching the trains — and street life of Berlin — pass me by.
IN A NEW POST CREATED SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS CHALLENGE, SHARE A PICTURE THAT MEANS FLEETING TO YOU.
Some ideas to get you started:
- Observing nature and capturing a quiet, special moment.
- Experimenting with shots of movement.
- Taking a snapshot of someone deep in thought (or alternatively, in mid-action).
- Exploring a place that’s transient in nature (airports, stations, streets, etc.).
We think this theme is open to many interpretations and look forward to seeing what you come up with!

New to The Daily Post? Whether you’re a beginner or a professional, you’re invited to get involved in our Weekly Photo Challenge to help you meet your blogging goals and give you another way to take part in Post a Day / Post a Week. Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.
Here’s how it works:
1. Each week, we’ll provide a theme for creative inspiration. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Friday when the next photo theme will be announced.
2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “Weekly Photo Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.
3. Subscribe to The Daily Post so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.
thanks, Cheri, for inspiring us again, I’ll search in my photo shoebox!

Hi, lovely lovely theme this week – will be back later with a post.
Just wanted to say – and sorry to be a downer – but there are obviously so many people who love these Weekly Photo Prompts and are participating and doing good work, but we never see them in the Freshly Pressed section.
I, for one, would love to be introduced to some of the great photographers using WordPress in the Freshly Pressed section.
Okay – off to find something fleeting… Kat
