First Friday

Brand new blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

It’s our final First Friday: The Daily Post won’t be publishing any more after May 31, 2018. Check out our farewell post for the why, how, and what, including where you can find ongoing advice and support. And be sure to connect with one another on your own blogs, so you can maintain the relationships that started here! Thanks so much for sharing all your stories with us.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

  1. The last😣😭 I loved the Friday Post as it gave me the confidence, through seeing like minded and similarly new bloggers like me, to jump into the pool. Sad to see you go, even though we really just met!

As my first post was about writing, a fare thee well freebie post for all who care to take a gander

    Friday Freebie!!

    1. Hi great post reminded me of my trip to Christchurch. One suggestion for you, you are using too many tags. WordPress anti-spam filters kick in with more than 15 combined tags and categories and this will stop search engines selecting your posts. So, only use the most relevant tags to help you get noticed, hope this helps. 🙂

      1. Tags are basically key words that search engines can pick up. Take a look a few of my posts – the longer ones may have more – it depends on content. If you write about Prince Harry’s wedding, tag Prince Harry. Write about the Titanic, tag Titanic, White Star line – mention a specific passenger then tag that person, too.

  2. Hello everyone,
I run this blog writing about life in a country which you might have heard a bit about “Afghanistan”. Though the stories are a bit sad but the truth should always be heard. So have a read and give me some feedbacks plz.

    1. Interesting to read! A few suggestions, an about page and also, you may want to shorten your posts to the excerpts so that it makes it easier to scroll through to the next one.

  3. Well, this is the first time I’ve really looked through this since starting my blog about ten days ago. It’s unfortunate that this is coming to an end as it seems to be a great way to find new blogs.

Well, my site has just started – it still needs an About Me section among a few other things – but I try to write everyday about books, movies, along with some original writing. My first post is a book review but my latest post – today – is original if you want to hop on over. onemoredown.wordpress.com/2018/05/15/hunters-in-the-dark-by-lawrence-osborne/

  4. Only just heard that this is the last First Friday! 😢 Gutted that I won’t be able to welcome new writers of fiction into the blogosphere here! Oh well. If there are any writers of flash fiction, short stories or poems out there I would be delighted to read/review your work.
