First Friday

The pool’s closed for maintenance this week — see you next Friday!

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. You forgot your link but fortunately the link under your name works! You might want to post again with your post link. I did really enjoy your post 😊

    1. Nice start! I agree on adding an “about” page, you could also add some tags to your post to try and attract more people too 🙂

      1. Helli Kodanda!! Your post is interesting..infact my son would love the content as he has developed a fancy for the ghosts..of late 🙂 Regarding your site, i would suggest you to add an ‘About ‘ page..so that your readers can connect to your writing on a more personal level. You could think of a little facelift of your site too. Happy blogging 💕💕

    1. Lovely start, I like how you included lots of images between each paragraph which is how i prefer to read posts 🙂
I looked on your blog too & could’t see an “about” page which could benefit your blog & readers! 🙂 great start

      1. If you post the link on the actual first Friday page I’m sure I will come across it, I wouldn’t suggest posting on someone else’s post.

    1. Great start on your blog! I agree with keeping posts on your homepage to excerpts so people can glance through your overall blog and then click to read more if they choose as there might be certain posts which pick their interest more than others. I also couldn’t see an “about” page on your blog which you can always benefit from 🙂

    1. I like your blog very much!
If you click on my name you’ll see it’s my blog title with my name as the hyper link.
The me page is where you can fix that! Every time you leave a comment or a like, people might go to your blog via that link. If it’s a dead link, you’re losing out on viewers for your blog. To change the link associated with your comments, go to https://wordpress.com/me and scroll down to Profile Links. 😊

I would suggest an about page. Tell us a little about you, why you’re blogging and what your blog will be about. It’s a taster, a teaser to get people to look deeper. Have a look at others about me pages and find what works for you but bear in mind, it’s the first thing a lot of people look for so make it work 😊

    Thanks for reading!

    1. What a great start! Everything works, link wise so that’s fabulous! I loved your post but it’s very long. That isn’t bad at all but it might be helpful to change it into a smaller series. Like BBQ part 1 Preparation, part 2 veggies, part 3 meats. With smaller more specific posts you might get more return traffic as people look for specific things. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your post, I want to stress that!! People are lazy though so if you get more readers by making each section separate it’s something to consider!

That is very helpfull 🙂 Im still learning and I hope I will make progress soon! 🙂
Accually you are the second person who mention the lenth of post 🙂 it is a great idea to change it to smaller and more specific posts, I will work on it as soon as I would have a bit more time 🙂
        Thank you again 🙂

    1. Okay here I go! Your content is great. I agree with others about font size. You can change that in the customizer.
One thing I found is that clicking on your “name” takes me to a dead link. If you click on my name you’ll see it’s my blog title with my name as the hyper link.

If you change your posts to show as excerpts on your home page the layout will look much better and people can instantly see and click on individual posts. You can do this in your customized under blog content.
I couldn’t see like or follow buttons at the end of your posts. Those are pretty much essential. You want to make it as easy as possible for people to like, comment and follow you.I couldn’t see like or follow buttons at the end of your posts. Those are pretty much essential. Go to your my sites button (where you can check your stats) Scroll down to ‘Configure’ and go to ‘Sharing’ then ‘sharing buttons’. Check ‘reblog’ and ‘like’.
Also go to ‘Settings’,scroll down to ‘Discussion’ and check ‘allow comments’ ‘send pingbacks’ and ‘receive pingbacks’. These will notify you when someone tags you and also notify others if you tag them – very useful!
I hope I haven’t sounded hyper critical, your content is great and these are just little details but they will help people find you 😊

  6. Hi. I started posting about a week ago here.
I still can’t get the media files working properly + I’m looking for a better layout for my blog so I thought visiting other blogs would help.
Here’s a link to my first post https://lechesnotes.wordpress.com/2018/04/26/1/
All the posts are in Korean though. 😬
I’m not sure if I can find the right audience here.

      1. Jpg. I can’t change the size of the pictures while saving them under ‘media’ 😦

      2. Once you insert the picture into a post or page, you can change the size right in the editor — drag a corner of the photo in or out, and you can resize it however you like.

  7. Happy Friday everyone!

It is always such a pleasure to meet you all and get to know new people! I am going to be dotting around and checking out your posts, leaving some feedback.

If you would particularly like me to visit your site, please comment to that effect below, but I have been asked to tell you not to post your link as this makes life difficult for the moderators 🙂

Looking to finding out a bit more about you all!
    Whoop FRIDAY!!!

  8. Hey y’all! I’ve come up with ways in which we can get to know each other beyond the virtual world. Check it out on my blog. Urging all of y’all to help support the initiative and be an active part in it. This is a great opportunity for us to get to know each other and become a greater part of the blogging community. Once y’all post it, tag me so that I can get to know who’s supporting me and showing love.
I’ve taken the fist step with myself and shared something intimate and close to me,
    Check it out⬇️

  9. This happens to be the very first First Friday in May, so may I say, wElCoMe, all new bloggers out there! I bet that you were brave enough to join the beloved WordPress community; I too was courageous enough to join WordPress when I launched my blog on November 12th, 2012, so I know what it is like to experience the wonderfully wide 🌎of blogging. May I wish each and every one of you the very best of luck, with 💘-JW
