Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. Hi there, you have a text widget which needs updating, and I would strongly urge you to complete your About page, to draw readers to follow you. Most of your posts don’t have a visual image; this is really important in pulling people in. Apart from that, a good, solid start – good luck!

  1. Here’s my latest post – discussing the ways that I consume history – There are surprisingly many ways and I did miss one or two off in the hope that the term ‘public history’ would start a discussion in the comment section.

  2. Hi, I’d like to ask if there is a limit on the number of links you can add to a post?

Also – I’m doing some blog roundups, with a bit of a difference, I weave them into a fictional story. I’ve had some decent feedback – but from folk who are name checked or are active in my blogging community; I would really welcome some feedback from a totally unbiased audience.

Does it work when you don’t necessarily know the blogs that I feature?

    Many thanks, Sonia

    1. I’ve seen posts with lots of links on them. I’d guess you can have as many as you need. The only thing is that if you link to too many posts, it isn’t much point to it as hardly anyone will click. 🙂

      1. The reason I ask is; when I have included a few, they start to disappear. If I redo the link I’ll lose another one somewhere else in the test.

        Thank you for answering though!

      2. I’ll come up with a scenario for a story that will feature the other bloggers as characters. Then when it comes to their slot I copy their link and add it within the body of the text.

      3. I meant technically – I should have been clearer. Assuming you are using the new editor, highlight text you want to make clickable, click the insert/edit link icon, (between numbered list and block quote in the toolbar), add the link address next to URL and click ‘Add link’. If it’s still going wrong, it might be an idea to check your browser is up to date or ask for help in the forums.

Sorry if you have already tried all this, or you’ve got it sorted now – I can’t find the original thread so am just replying to your comment.

      4. That is what I’m doing – though I will check regarding the browser – that’s a good point, and could be where the problem lies. Thank you for taking time to get back to me

      1. Thank you so much, Robert! I found some of your blog posts really helpful. Especially the one about proofreading.
It’s surreal and overwhelming, y’know, to imagine that a thousand people actually like to read what I write. .__.

    1. This has given me something to think about, which is the point of a blog post! It is not one I have read and will forget. I will remember it. X

Yes, I did appreciate it. I liked the length. Lists of about 5 points work for me.

    1. Very thought-provoking. You love someone more than you loved yourself. Yes. This is what made my first heartbreak so devastating. And my second. By my third, I cared enough about myself to get out and prevent my own destruction. I was not devastated; I was elated. This time I loved myself enough. Now I am in a relationship based on mutual respect, and I am as nurtured as I nurture.
      Wow. Thank you.

  7. Hello to you all!
I’m trying to get back into blogging after my new job but here’s my reason for blogging:
I started my blog because I got scared of the fact everyone’s going to uni and starting their lives whilst I’m here on my second gap year not knowing what I want to do. I thought I love to write and read so why not start a blog and so I got the courage too. I don’t know where this will go but I’m writing about travel, health and food so if you’re willing to give it a read it would mean the world to me.

    1. I’m already following you but I really like your blog.
Good luck with all that saving, you will have an amazing time on your travels. 😀

Also, there are quite a few facebook groups for women travel bloggers. I have a feeling you’d find some of them useful.

    2. Some great advice there! I work all over the country and to stop me buying service station Costa or Starbucks I buy a 24 or 30 can box of Diet Coke and keep in the boot of the car. It’s paid for itself in 2 drinks!

    3. Great tips. This got me through student life over 20 years ago, and I have employedcthe same strategies once or twice since when I needed to save up or start again. Valuable habits!
      Very clear and well-written.

  9. Good day, my imaginary friends!
I have written a thing and need opinions on whether it’s worth continuing?

    Utter Nonsense

It is titled “Utter Nonsense” because… Well, I couldn’t think of anything else to title it as. There IS a second part, and if people actually like it there may wind up being a third, fourth, and so forth.

    Thank you in advance!
    Sincerely,

  10. Hey fellow bloggers

Following a recent breakup with someone I thought would be part of my future, it inspired this short story depicting how i currently feel internally. (Warming: violent content)

The Fictional Diary of A Hopeless Romantic Part 2

As always feel free to drop by and drop your thoughts on my blog and I’ll be sure to also check out your blog and interact with you also. Feedback means a lot to me as i deem it as a form of validation/constructive criticism

    With love,

    1. I like your site. Great photos. I think it’s obvious they are links to other posts, but I would move the “popular topic” bar lower in the sidebar. I’ve never liked them because they are such word vomit and hard to read being in 20 different sizes.

      1. Thanks for taking a look Joshua. I was looking at ways earlier to stop the tags being different sizes (or making them less different, if that makes sense) but can’t find one. I agree that does make it harder to read. I dare say I would need CSS or to use a different theme.

      2. I think they exist in different sizes to show which words are used more in tags. It can be a helpful tool for some, but for people like me who just like to browse sites, they’re visually unappealing.
