Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. This was thought-provoking; it is important to find a couple who are similar; I commented on your site about needing a couple on their second marriage as models when I embarked on a post-divorce relationship.

    1. Hi, welcome. Great start.
The length of your first paragraph was just about perfect for blogging as readers on electronic devices need shorter paragraphs. If you could do that for your much longer middle paragraph it’d be easier on the eyes.
      Hope this helps 🙂

  2. Hello Everyone!! I published my first post on 7th March this year only…and I am still getting used to the slight intricasies of blogging..but i am thoroughly enjoying it. I still find it confusing as to how to pingback 😦 Secondly, I am a little shy to ask fellow bloggers to follow me..i don’t know how it is done 😦 Lastly, please read my post here

    1. Wish you all the best. No I am not an experienced, high fan-following blogger. But I can relate to you. Good luck.

    2. You clearly have a wide vocabulary. Your work has a nice structure, but I felt your less formal lexemes were sometimes more effective and fit more seamlessly in creating imagery and style. The more complex pieces of vocabulary perhaps needed softening a little. Great piece though, really imaginative. You clearly have a writer’s aptitude! 🙂

      1. I think your writing is really good. Definitely stick with it!

If you haven’t already and fancy, I would be very grateful if you would check out my site. Leave a like or comment if you wish, and if the moment takes you and you click ‘follow’, well that would just make my day!

      2. I will follow, but I really want to see what you are capable of when you let go of the convoluted multimorphemes and focus on depth of meaning and carefully selected metaphor. This is where the true skill of writing is to be found. You have a lot of promise, and I can’t wait to see what you can produce when learn to intricately pluck and manipulate the smaller units of the lexicon rather than strumming the strings of larger ones–if you see what I am getting at (and this is also an example of what I mean, I am using an off-the-cuff metaphor of playing a guitar to describe manipulating writing.) I hope this helps.

    3. The easiest way to make a pingback is to visit the post you want to link to, then copy and paste the URL (that’s the full address, including the starting bit https that you’ll find at the top of the page). For example:
      https://cascadesofhappiness.wordpress.com/2018/03/19/the-mushy-second-month-anniversary/
The address you see often changes when you click in to the space to copy and paste it, as you’ll see if you click on the WordPress.com at the top of the page.

    4. Hi, you still have some default text on you home page that should be removed. You also still have default text in the About page. This can be edited in the customiser. About pages are useful as they allow other bloggers and readers to know a little more about the author.
      Hope this helps 🙂

    1. You’ve made me fancy a burrito! I think you’re doing great. One thing you might consider changing is the top. At the moment, there seems a lot of information to take in and a lot of capital letters. You might try lower case, or hiding some of it behind a menu.

  3. Hello. I do a photo blog with pictures of my North Cornwall UK home county.
    https://bearsphotos.wordpress.com
I have just changed the theme and layout so I wanted some feedback about it to make sure people can see the social links easily. I felt they were hidden and easily missed before in their footer menu position.
    Thanks.

    1. I love your pictures and the black and white theme goes well with your photos. Yes, you can see the social links however perhaps you could make it bolder so people can see better.

    1. I really, really want a margarita now! It’s funny, I broke my ribs in December and once they were healed sneezing really hurt the front of my chest. Obviously sneezing give us a whole body shake and if we’re poorly, we really feel it! 🙂

  4. I haven’t been in Community Pool in ages. Honestly, I have been struggling with blogging recently. I am actually taking a break for a bit for the reasons that I explain in this post, but I realized that it might be a good idea to begin reading and discovering new bloggers in the hopes of inspiring me again. My blog is all about ‘Where Music Meets Photography’.

    1. I started blogging full of enthusiasm but only lasted 3 months then took a year’s break. I’m back with renewed purpose. I found that engaging with more people (something that I would resist in the real world) has really helped me gain a group of core readers – not saying I wouldn’t want more though.
      Good luck 🙂

      1. Thanks, that is good advice. This is my fifth year of blogging and I just have noticed a general trend away from them. When WP still had good free courses on here, you got really great engagement with people. I met so many people that way and it really inspired me but since then people (inevitably) lost interest or have personal stuff. I think I just feel like I lost much of my community which is why I’m going to take a break and then come back to it as you say. Thanks for the advice!

      2. Thank you! I’m really not planning on going, just taking a break due to some of the things I just wrote about. Just need some clarity but deep down despite the issues I have with the community now, I enjoy it too much to stop.

      1. Those social icon links you could easily find (if you want to use them to link your accounts) if you go to Themes in your dashboard, clicking on the Customize button, and under one of the options of your used theme you should be able to locate them easily to make changes, or delete those.

  5. Hi everyone, this was my first attempt ever to build a website/blog page. I would love some feedback on how it feels to navigate it and whether or not it feels there is enough personal info available (without overkill – a tough balance haha). I am recovery from an injury that will force me to make some BIG career changes. While I heal I am trying to write and post in order to stay active and create a portfolio of sorts – so it is important tpo me that I represent myself accurately and hopefully positively! Haha. If you have time to cruise the site I would be grateful AND open to all feedback – most especially ERRORS, web etiquette…anything that will help me improve. THANK YOU!!
