Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Note: Starting this week, each Community Pool post will be open for two days. Comments will then be closed until we publish the next Community Pool. Enjoy the swim!

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. Wow. That is a seriously long slug for your post. As in way too long. You should always keep your slug as short as possible while still retaining the key words so people will have a more accurate understanding of what the post is about.

Also, I really enjoy this Community pool. I’ve only had my blog for about 6 months, but reading everyone’s writing & exploring the blog world is my favorite part of almost everyday! You all inspire me!! Have an awesome week! 💛

    1. This is a fantastic post. Since I am an Indian as well I truly appreciate your effort to be able to write on something like this which represents Indian culture and heritage and share it with the world. Your work is highly commendable.

      2. Thank you loads! No…I belong to a small town India. And I believe you belong to Jaipur? I haven’t had the opportunity to visit Jaipur yet, but have visited Udaipur once on a college trip.

    1. Hehe It could be the island where Harry hid with the Dursleys before Hagrid found them!?

I didn’t think Hogwarts was on an island, but it’d be awesome if it was!!

    1. It’s super easy to navigate, so no worries there.

Just a teeny bit of extra feedback. I find it slightly hard to read the text on such a busy background. It might not be a big issue for everyone, but i imagine this would make it quite tough for visually impaired people to read your blog. It looks pretty, it is just hard to see the text…

  2. Hello to all the readers and writers out here!

Poetry is an art that enables me to bring forward and at the same time, comprehend all the hurricanes of emotions that I experience.
Do you feel the same way about poetry?

I would be extremely glad to know what you think about my poems!

Here’s the link to my recent poem which talks about the moments we would like to treasure forever:

Would be glad to receive feedbacks!

    1. Loved it… although I struggled a little with the mix of fonts and quotes layout on your rhyming slang post. But you never asked for any feedback so ignore me if you like, I’m old and grumpy anyway.

      1. That’s awesome feedback. Thanks. The whole point is to be able to read comfortably, so I will bear that in mind. I guess I am a bit of a scanner so more traditional paragraphs loose me sometimes. Thanks again. Not old, wise.

  3. Here’s a short and sweet life lesson I posted this morning:

Yosemite Sam Should Not Do Yoga

You’ll be surprised to read the words “yoga” and “Yosemite Sam” closely intertwined in this post! Let me know your thoughts! I’d love some critique on whether or not my blogs purpose is clear from the categories and posts that are published. Thanks!

    1. Would love to follow your blog but I didn’t see the option to follow through the Reader, just by email (you don’t want to get buried in my Inbox). At any rate, you asked for some critique regarding your categories, and interestingly enough, even though I forgot you were asking about it, that is the one thing I felt could be better on your blog. The page titles in your menu were just vague and amorphous enough to me that I felt no sense of direction from them; I didn’t feel like I knew where to look for something. I’ve just gone back to look at them again, and I can now see a bit more distinction (Light Thoughts is obviously your more fun and whimsical stuff), but the other 3 page titles aren’t distinct enough–as though a blog topic could be under any one of them. Not sure how more I can help you with this, but at least you know that someone else has noticed the lack of clarity that you’ve been wondering about.

      1. I appreciate your feedback SO much! I will work on getting my menu categories more succinct and obvious. I will also figure out how to fix the following issue. I appreciate you!

  4. Happy Monday everyone! 😊

I’m a beauty and lifestyle blogger, but I’m also a Canadian military wife. Last week I wrote a post about what it’s really like being a military spouse and offered some advice for others in similar situations 😊

  5. Hello folks!

Sometimes storms are like people. Sometimes, if you listen carefully, you might hear them whisper in melodies of love. If you look carefully, you might see them frantically, desperately holding on to sanity. And when you close your eyes, and your fingertips touch the frosted window-glass, you might feel their trembling heartbeat in every raindrop that kisses its cold pretence.

    Here’s something I’ve written recently: https://lampteacupoverthinking.wordpress.com/2018/03/10/agony/

  6. Happy Monday Bloggers!

My blog is filled with introspective posts about my life, my hopes, my studies in Law with the influence of my favorite movies and music, and some poetry pieces. However I can’t seem to be getting enough likes or followers. This is very demotivating as a writer and a blogger. I would appreciate if someone could give me advice or feedback?

My latest post was about my involvement in a diverse and empowering campaign for International Women’s Day. Do give that a read, a like and a comment on criticism when you have the chance!

    1. What I have read so far- you have a lovely blog. I gave a follow and left a comment for you. It takes time to build an audience- just keep doing what you are doing. I tweeted our your link in hopes you can attract more! Have a great day! 🙂

    2. It takes a lot of time, determination and perseverance when building a blog. In my opinion, the best thing to do is to get yourself out there and promote your blog, by posting in this community pool you’ve already taken the first step with engaging with other bloggers. To get the most out of this I’d recommend checking out others people’s blogs and leaving feedback, you never know you might find your new favourite blog and a like-minded community.

I have a whole post on this with more information, if you wanna check it out I’ll leave a link here: https://whenlifeawakens.wordpress.com/2017/08/19/100-followers-blogging-tips-tricks-beaboss-series/

    3. I read your blog post and commented (as I’m sure you’ve now seen). I scrolled through your other blog excerpts to get a broader view of what you’re doing, and you’ve got quite a few posts that look interesting (if I had time I’d be reading them right now).
So, to help answer your dilemma of not getting enough likes/followers/comments, I’m curious as to how long you’ve been blogging. From what I can see, only mid-December 2017, yes? If that’s true, then don’t despair. You are still very new at this, and it can take time to build up the following, especially if you want it to be more “organic”/natural and unforced. Just keep posting and networking through the Community Pool and your Reader. As you interact with others, they will be curious and stop by your blog to learn more about you.
Otherwise, the only other possible tip I have for you to help get your following growing is this: consider narrowing or prioritizing your focal points. As enticing as journaling out loud (sharing personal thoughts/events on the internet) is, very few people actually have the time anymore to sit and just read someone else’s internal thoughts just for the sake of reading them. If you can get those personal stories and thoughts to provide a specific help that the general populace has/feels a need for, then I believe you will grow your audience even more quickly. Your law studies and desire to help women sound like a perfect place to focus.

  8. Happy Monday Everyone!

Would love if you guys checked out/share/comment on my latest post on Millenial Mrs. and Mom:

“What is Healthy and Unhealthy Sex in Marriage?”

Sex, something we enjoy, that brings us not only physical pleasure but the emotional connection to our partners, can be more complex than one would assume. Sex is something that should be fun, passionate, playful, creative, and intimate. Sex requires trust because sex is vulnerable. Sex shouldn’t involve fear, abuse, and certainly shouldn’t be without consent. [ 839 more words ]
