Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Note: Starting this week, each Community Pool post will be open for two days. Comments will then be closed until we publish the next Community Pool. Enjoy the swim!

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hello everyone, I felt a sense of mid-week motivation this morning and published my latest blog on eating disorder recovery and identity. It’s all about my next adventures after my fundraising tour of London and how I think reaching out and engaging with causes beyond eating disorders and mental health might be the key to rebuilding identity. I’d love to know your thoughts and would love hear from anyone who’d like to get involved in my next adventure 🙂

    1. Hey, I’ve just had a look at your blog and so far you’re on the right track with the layout.
However, there are some things I’d like to advise on, first the background colour of your blog, I’d recommend changing it to standard white colour mainly because it clashes with the black font colour.
In terms of widgets, you probably don’t need a calendar widget at the bottom unless you plan on using it. When showing the most recent posts I’d say limit it to 5 else the page will get cluttered. The photo gallery and stats information is really good to have. I’d say add the blue Follow Button to your blog so it’s easier for other bloggers to follow. One last thing in terms of widgets, order them in a slightly different way, first with the blog stats and the follow button and then categories with the photo gallery last.

      I hope this was useful!!

      1. Thank you! I will! I am having trouble with the widgets and I’m working on understanding. I had the follow button on there I thought.. I’ll go back through it. Thanks so much for the helpful feedback!! 👍🏻

    1. Hello. I just read your “about me”. I wanted to add another quality that you have. You write well, and have a clean designed blog.
Re not sharing with friends and family, I get it. Not opening yourself up to scrutiny from people you know. Hopefully over time, you will be more comfortable with what you have to share. Wishing you well 🙂

      1. Hey thank you. I read your writing too. And I want the quality that you have. You right very matter of factly and you are consistent. My writing can get overly sentimental sometimes. I wish I could show less emotion sometimes. 😐

  3. Hi guys, I recently started my blog. I know that it should mainly be about books but I also want to put my own thoughts and feelings somewhere. The problem is, I havent decided how personal I want to go? And if I want to share the link to my blog to family and friends. How did you decide this when you started your blog? This is my blog http://thebookhiatus.com/
