First Friday

Brand new blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.
  • When commenting, avoid copying and pasting the same response repeatedly. It makes it look like you’re not really paying attention. Not to mention, it’s spammy.

  1. Hi there!
Newbie here. Will you please visit my page and give me some tips on how can I improve my writings and what are my opportunities. Also, will you please read my blog about “Brain Tumor: Fight of Courage and Faith” and also the “She doesn’t have hair anymore.” Thank you so much and God bless you. 🙂

    1. Thanks for the reminder of some very important things we should all remember once in a while. A really nice post! I left you a comment. xxx

      1. Hi @MissteriosoDas,

Please don’t routinely leave links to your posts as part of your comments — we just have to delete them. Also, we discourage trading a follow for a follow. If you’d like to get your site noticed, the best thing to do is to visit others’ blogs and leave a thoughtful comment or ask a thoughtful question after reading their work. People are naturally curious about those who show genuine interest in them and they’ll want to visit your blog in return. Thanks for understanding and for your enthusiasm here at First Friday!

      1. Recently I did a post about Colombo, Sri Lanka – except I spelt it Columbo (as in the TV detective) throughout the article, only about 30 times.

      2. It’s strange how we become blind to our own writing sometimes! I think for me because am reading it through in my head, my brain jumps ahead of the actual words on the screen. Am not a natural writer, unless it’s law! Bit of an adjustment for me!
I will pop over to your blog Sri Lanka has always been a place I’d like to know more about

    1. As a fellow unemployed graduate I’d say it is hope. Because sticking up for one another is what we can do right now instead of calling ourselves insane. Einstein’s theories can also be proved wrong, once we get a mind more brilliant than his ;).
If you decide to visit my blog, I have a post named monotony, read it. I think you’ll relate and resonate with my thoughts.

  2. My best friend and I would really appreciate it if you could just “take a moment”. We are both very passionate about talking or writing about things that really matter to us. As our first blog post was a rather spontaneous act, we have yet to put in a lot of work into our blog! Any recommendations or tipps are very welcome.

    1. I would like to like or follow your blog but couldn’t find it. I think you’d benefit from an “about me” page too. It would give newcomers a starting point. Loved your LEGO post, it was very heartwarming

    1. I feel the same. I can be social but only within my group of friends, when I’m with outsiders, I’m content with hearing them blab on but I mostly don’t share stuff until I feel a connection with them.
