Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. I like this. It reads really well and the concept is fun – stand alone stories within a story. Kind of gestalt, if you want to call it that.
      Keep going!

Do something for yourself. Write! There’s no need to let link back if you don’t want to. Do it for you. Write a sonnet, write flash fiction, write haiku or a novel.
Come on – you know you want to.

  2. Hi everyone!
My name is Melanie. I have a blog here where I write short stories, draw, and ramble (mostly about my new puppy lately lol). I am always looking to connect with new bloggers and find some new stuff to read! I also love the feedback I’ve gotten from many swimmers – you have all helped me improve a lot : )

Here is a short story I wrote recently: https://thestoryaddict.blog/2018/03/04/a-little-extra-sugar/

I also recently created an instagram for my blog! Do you use it? Do you find it beneficial for your blog? Mine is @the_story_addict

  3. Hello fellow bloggers!

I began this blog just over a month ago, and would be very grateful for thoughts—it will probably make most sense to read from the first post onwards as it is chronological:

    First post: https://thisdoorisalarmed.wordpress.com/2018/02/03/the-truth-is-out

I am looking for new blogs to follow. I enjoy well-crafted, descriptive work and travel blogs. Please leave your link if you think I will like it and I will check out your site. In return, I would be grateful if you returned the favour, leave a comment or a like if you wish, and if you feel like hitting ‘follow’, well that would just be marvellous! *cheeky grin*

      1. Thank you Novus! *grins epically* I love that you are always the first follower to read it. You are quick as lightning! 😁 if you got points for following then you would be points rich! In absence of that I send you a rich and plentiful smile which almost envelops my ears. 😀

      1. Good advice. Inspiring for sure. If I could provide one little piece of advice- quickly proof read your post before publishing. If any errors creep through, it can make it look unprofessional. I really hope you make your target. Don’t give up! Xxx

    1. Hi Kara! Love the appearance of your blog, and the consistent styling of your images. Also, books are always a plus for me 🙂

In terms of improvement, perhaps you could add one or two additional labels to the menu running underneath your header – one for reviews, another for tags, and so on. It’s personal preference, but I do find it handy customising menus like that, as it allows readers to find what they’re most interested in without scrolling chronologically through your posts on the main screen.

Otherwise, carry on the way you are! (And good luck with the publishing job hunt!)

      1. You have a lovely style. If there was one piece of advice, I would advise that planning a blog post makes it nice and concise. Just jot down the main things you want to say before you start. You have a lovely way of writing things though, and your bright, honest personality shines through, making you very likable!

    1. Your stuff is ALWAYS lovely to read. Today was fantastic. I’ve been meaning to play with length more recently. How’d you feel about writing something so short? I feel like when I go shorter I’m more critical of word choices. Do you feel that same?

    1. A fantastic read. Wow. So very powerful! Also, welcome to the wonderful world of blogging! 😄 Do you use tags and categories when you blog? If so, did you know that WP filters out posts that use more than a combined fifteen? I didn’t take the time to see if you used them or how many. But this was one of the best advices I got as a new blogger. (To be honest, I still feel new some days and I’ve been blogging for nearly a year! 😳 guess it might just be me….) but be sure to use “art,” “poems” or “poetry” and “life” or “lifestyle” tags. And one other thing: don’t forget to check out the tags you do use to find other blogs similar to yours! I hope this helped. And if you have other questions, feel free to ask me! Hopefully I’ll be able to answer them for you. 😊 All the best, Kelsey

  7. Hello,
I’m trying to get back into blogging after my new job but here’s my reason for blogging:
I started my blog because I got scared of the fact everyone’s going to uni and starting their lives whilst I’m here on my second gap year not knowing what I want to do. I thought I love to write and read so why not start a blog and so I got the courage too. I don’t know where this will go but I’m writing about travel, health and food so if you’re willing to give it a read it would mean the world to me.
I’d love that and to hear what people think. Hope you’re having a lovely day.

  9. Hurrah the moment is here for swimming. Just taking a little dip to say hi and drop my link to my latest which is about the lovely island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean. On another note, last week after two days I saw we had over 1,500 comments which means that the Pool is becoming very crowded. That’s not a bad thing though. It means more people are sharing and engaging. There is a wide audience out there for your writing pleasure. Enjoy this

  10. Hello fellow bloggers!
I had written this poem sometime back. It’s about the predicament a new student in class faces. And how situations change during one fine lecture. Do give it a read. The link is shared below.

    The Lecture That It Was

Have you ever been a new student in class? Did you face a similar situation? Feel free to share your experiences either here or on the blog itself. Looking forward to reading your views.

    Thanks!
    Have a wonderful week ahead.

  12. Helloo… I changed my theme… Well, that was weeks ago now so that’s just a pathetic excuse to paste a link here to get a few readers to go and have a look at the sort of thing I do which is all sorts of stupid. Anyway, at least I’m honest, if not entirely sensible.

Bryntin has taken to doing a third-person narrative over the last few posts, so that’s different to before ummm… he said.
