Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. I’ll also love for you to give me ideas on how to push my traffic as I just started and some fashion blog to follow so I can get inspiration 😊. StyleSenami.wordpress.com/ I have just four (4) posts, so feel free to go through and advice me on what to work on so I’ll get better.

    1. It takes a while to get going, but I can see you’re doing all the right things.

Just one tip – there are limits to the amount of tags you can use for your post to appear in WordPress’s Reader. I think the maximum is fourteen tags and categories combined.

  2. Sharing my post recent post with you all. Australian singer/producer Alex Cameron dropped one of my favorite records from last year, Forced Witness, and I got to see him and his band last week in LA – they put on a really fun show! Here is my review. If you like the idea of some infectious, ’80s inspired rock tunes with a comic flair, look no further than this guy.

    1. I read your MPO about views peice and really related to it, it’s much more encouraging to know someone is acutally reading your posts rather than just quietly liking them. One bit of feedback would be to add a widget so people can quickly look through your whole cataloge rather than scroll down (unless I missed it!) keep at it 🙂

      1. Thank you very much for your advice. I’ll add a widget just like you suggested and I’ve read one post from your blog thus far and I truly enjoyed it

    1. Though it’s an interesting concept, I’m not sure quite how to decipher what’s going on. It’s a good attempt at a challenge, but it might be better to lengthen it out.
      Happy writing!

      1. Thank you for your feedback. Whilst it doesn’t bode well (for me) that you weren’t able to decipher what was going on, I’d like to try and explain so you can see what I was trying to do.

The challenge was to write about superstitious (interpreted any way you say fit) my take on it was more around superstitions in general and the text meant to be subliminal.

For example, the character names are all witches out of the Wizard of Oz. To understand placement within the story you’d need to know who they were i.e. Evanora (wicked witch) and Glinda (good witch). There is also a relationship between Evanora and Theodora (sisters).

There are 13 children (13 being a number that many consider unlucky) 12 of them chanting and 1 of them who’s participating on the floor.

During the game; Glinda falls and Locasta (mother) shouts up asking what on earth is going on. She’s also stirring a pot (didn’t use cauldron, but you get the point). She explains that she shouldn’t have had this sleepover/slumberparty on Friday 13th (superstition).

Finally in walks a black cat ‘Obsidian’ and black cats can also been seen as bad luck if one was to cross your path. As it happens this one is the family pet.

Sorry for the lengthily reply. I just felt I had to explain (as it wasn’t apparent) what story I was trying to portray.

I will bear your comments in mind though. Maybe I need to be more transparent for my next one.

        Thank you,

        Tina

      2. Perhaps for your next challenge you could work backwards by constructing a more complete version, something as small as 500 words and work your way down. Not only would it be a revision and perspective exercise, it’d help you decide which parts are absolutely necessary for a story.
Thank you for your explanation. I understand it much better now!

Yeah, I think I don’t do very well with promotion.
You sure just helped with a tip.
        I’ll do that!

        Thanks, again.

I’d love you to follow the blog. I’ll be dropping something very soon.

    1. A mini-you or mini-me would be interesting, especially if cloning humans became popular enough. I think for most situations, it’d be important to offer something you lacked like advice, encouragement, etc. if that applies or just try to make it the best person you could. Also, being a clone doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll have the same personality, so that’s a factor to watch for too.
      Happy writing!

    1. Hey Rexo 🙂 It’s great to see such bold writing about Christianity being put out there.

If I may, I have some input on how you might be able to improve the reading experience.

Give the reader opportunities to digest the powerful information you are relaying. Try packaging your thoughts into smaller paragraphs, (which you can even give headings to, if you like.) This will give the reading even more impact.

      Hope this helps.

  4. Hello fellow bloggers 🙂

It’s great to see so many creative minds at work on this platform!
I recently came across the “Post A Day” challenge and decided to post something on the topic “DIM” called “Mid-way to Light.” I haven’t posted in a while, so I’m in need of feedback.

My blogs are generally more Christian-based, but I would like to reach a wider audience in terms of religion/beliefs as well as nationality, so any advice in that aspect would be great.
Any other advice and criticism are also more than welcome!
    Happy Blogging!

    1. Hello! Just checked you out! I really the style you write in) I can feel you’re very passionate about cycling) Makes me want to try it either)
I would edit pictures maybe. They’re great and such, but I feel like they need some more colors. In this world where everyone is able to make a pro-looking pic with just their phone, people want to see beautifully edited photos)
But I know many ppl who do not want to edit anything, they want everything natural) Just pick your side)))
      Have a very nice day)

      1. Hi, thank you, I’m pleased you like it. It just so happens that I’ve started a photography course which also includes editing images to get the best out of them. Hopefully I’ll be able to learn quickly and get some more images up.
