Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. I enjoyed the style of the post I read alot. I thought it worked well. The swearing at the beginning to grab peoples attention and to really drive home a point is effective as long as you don’t stay there too long. You didn’t. My favorite part was the 4 observations you made about what A holes do. That was very effective and providing your insights and intellect was very useful. I like this format alot and I would stick with that. You can swear and be colorful and when it is backed with insight and intellect it works like a charm. If the whole thing is off color and a resolution or an insight is no provided it falls flat.

      1. If you go to your website outside of word press. So open a new window type in your website address. like mine is http://www.letstalkdepress.com when you open your page and hover your mouse over the bottom right corner a bar should pop up that says customize. Select Then a menu should pop up on the left side full length of your website. Select widgets, then select side bar. You can use this area to add like button, subscribe via email, or link to social media pages if you like.

    1. I LOVE your photographs! I appreciated that you credited the source for the snowy day picture. The “urbanism” photo is one of my favorites. Personally, I like to have a least a small caption, because I like to know what/where I am seeing, but sometimes photos speak for themselves and don’t really need one. Nice work!

    1. I like your writing. It’s highly descriptive and does a wonderful job of quickly setting the scene. I didn’t see any tags listed for your post. If you don’t have any, it could help people find your post if you added a few. https://gracelead.co

    1. Loved it, a safe rule to go buy is if it’s copyrighted you must have permission to use. And always give credit to where you get your photos. It best to use your own or someone who creates them with permission to site them.

  1. I love meaningful abstracts and also create some(not necessarily meaningful). This virtual space is going to be filled with articles on random topics (mostly unrelatable or out of any living person’s concern) and in case I am feeling a bit too artistic, then you may be able to witness some poetry too(not necessarily bounded by the rhymes). Anyways don’t bind yourself with any expectations.

    1. It was a funny post. You might want to adjust the tags on the post. Perhaps adding Ladrador Retriever and dog behavior would help people find it. Also, it often helps to visit the WordPress Reader for posts related to yours. If you put likes or comments on some of those posts, it can generate interest in your site. https://gracelead.co

    2. Also, I found it actually difficult to find your blog posts. Your “Home” page seems to show the “About” page. And the only way to navigate to your blogs was to click to the right where it says “latest posts”. Maybe use the “Home” page for a list of posts?

  2. I’m new to wordpress and am making an earnest attempt at establishing a blog. I don’t yet have a solid direction, but I believe that will come with time. For now, it’s all about dedicating time and effort toward this blog, in hopes that it helps me to establish my voice as a writer. So, check out my first couple of posts, and let me know what you think. Thanks in advance!

      1. Thank you for the kind words. I’m still getting my sea legs when it comes to navigating WordPress, so it helps to get suggestions like that. I’ll look into setting up the sidebar later this evening.

      1. Blogmas is when you spend December counting down to Christmas by posting Christmas-themed blogs! It’s a ton of fun! If you go to my main page, click blogs/life, it’s the first thing to pop up 👍🏻

  3. Hey, I started my blog only a month ago and I’m struggling to get traffic to it and also just feeling quite disheartened generally (difficult not to compare to other blogs!). Has anyone got any tips on getting more followers and any tips on how to better my blog I would really appreciate it!

    1. Hi!
You don’t at all need to be disheartened! I think that all the bloggers have at some point of time in their journeys struggled to get views.
All you need to do is blog often and connect with other bloggers, too. If you like a post then, be sure to comment and let the blogger know that you appreciate it!
Most importantly, relax and have fun!
Also, I like your blog and have followed you!
      Best of luck!🍀

    2. I checked out your site. I looked at a few pages and your photos are good and dialogue seems engaging – not my thing but that doesn’t matter. First thing you really need to do if you want to get traffic to your page – spend more time on other people’s pages. Leave feedback to get feedback. Like and comment often and you will get followers. The blog world is a huge place and it will not happen for you magically.

    3. Hi, so as the other comments say, engage here is a must, because we all do appreciate the interaction.
Also, post the link on here so we can head straight to your latest post.
Do you use social media – I have linked my blog to some social media, but I only share on Facebook when I think the post is worthy, but when I do, particularly if they subject is relevant, I get impressive stats. E.G. my family history post was shared on Facebook this time last week and by Friday it had over 140 views because I shared it with a group that is a one name study on my maiden name. So if you are a member of a group and are writing about their subject then you can gain more traffic. Or start your own. I have very small stats from Twitter, but all my stuff goes automatically there, but then I don’t engage with the Twitter community at all – I only have strangers on it. I also have taken a vow of ‘no empty follows’ I will check my reader and read the posts – I have lots of followers from when I first started that are not active – I was inactive for over a year.
      Hope this helps 🙂

  4. Hello to all the readers and writers out here!

Poetry has always helped me understand my own beliefs and feelings better. It has always helped me portray the strongest of feelings in their best forms.

I recently wrote a poem which talks about winter! Let me know what you think about it!

  5. “Elegance is usually confused with superficiality, fashion, lack of depth. This is a serious mistake: human beings need to have elegance in their actions and in their posture because this word is synonymous with good taste, amiability, equilibrium and harmony.

Elegance is achieved when all that is superfluous has been discarded and the human being discovers simplicity and concentration: the simpler and more sober the posture, the more beautiful it will be.”

  6. my follow count is really low. It grows slowly I check out similar blogs to me and comment on them and I also consistently interact with other writers by reading them and dropping comments on their site. I love the title of your blog. Brilliant.
