First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Hi there! Your link goes back to your dashboard, so I can’t actually see your blog. Make sure to click “view site” on your blog so you can see what your readers see and share that link instead. Then we’ll be able to read your post. 🙂

      1. I left a comment there! It’s a very brace first post.

My only critique is that the font you are using for your headers is a bit hard to read when it’s all in caps. It looks fine elsewhere on the site, but if you decide to keep that font make sure it’s not all in caps for ease of reading.

    2. Welcome!

FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s homepage and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that.

    1. Welcome 🙂

Looks like you haven’t given your site a title yet! If you’d like to add one (we recommend it), you can do that by going to My Site > Customize > Site Identity.

And be sure to add your blog’s address to your profile here — that way, people will be able to click on your name and go right to your blog. You can update that here: https://wordpress.com/me/. (Right now, your profile has the wrong link.)

    2. Posting every Friday sounds like a great idea! I started my blog about a year ago and found that I would go through phases of writing several times a week and then not again for several months. I should try disciplining myself to once a week!

      1. Sure, you login to wordpress and on the top left you see a icon called ‘my site’. A lot of options open and there’s an option called themes. Beside which there’s an option called customize. Click on that and you can make changes to your site. Such as giving a header, logo, text widget (a little text on the right side of your blog), footer (e.g.- recent posts on the end of the page). You can also add links to your social media account. This makes your site looks complete. try visiting your site when you’ve logged out of wordpress, you’ll come to know what’s missing. And for such a long explanation. But feel free to ask anything!

  2. *side note as I’ve already posted my first blog link, my stories are my own experiences, a hundred percent true and open book, and will include slam poems as well. Most of what I write about will be mental illness, but not all. AND I’ll try not to bore everyone to death. 🙄😊

    1. Hi Prashant
In our school we used to say Sunday is a Funday. So we should do some fun activities on this day rather than sleeping, eating and relaxing. I really enjoyed reading your blog. Keep sharing your thoughts as I have started following you.

  3. Autumn Decor is my first public post.
    https://thehomeplaceweb.wordpress.com/2017/10/06/autumn-decor/

I started a private blog a year ago, made one post then this past August started it seriously again, doing one post per week. I now have 15 posts but just took it public last week, (I wanted to get comfortable with the process first). My blog is called http://www.thehomeplaceweb.wordpress.com It is a lifestyle blog celebrating a simpler more peaceful life. I am a newly retired baby boomer with rural roots, hence the name thehomeplace. My aim with the blog is to support my weekly theme with art, music and books related to the topic. I am still struggling with setup but any feedback would be welcome.

  4. Hello, friends!

I’ve started my blog this week as a medium for positive thoughts and important lessons that we learn about ourselves, and how we can translate that into the world around us. My hope is that this blog will serve as a safe space for people to gain confidence, act upon their potential and realize how amazing they are! Good luck to everybody- Happy First Friday!

      1. Thank you, farrukh! That means a lot to me.

I went through many hurdles to obtain great jobs at some of the top companies in the Financial Services industry and along the way, I learned a lot. I want to share with others what I’ve learned because when I first graduated, I was very ignorant about many career topics. I entered the corporate world blindly. It’s time to pay it forward.

    1. I read the “The Promise of the Future” and I’m guessing your younger and it’s awesome to see that you realize that no matter what God has a plan and great outcome for your life. It took me years to figure this out. I mean I’m not super old but not that young anymore. Thanks for your post. Did you think about adding a “About” tab and some Widgets to your site?

      1. Helloo. Thank you for taking the time to read. I really appreciate it. I did think about adding an “About” tab but I’m still thinking about what I should write. And I’m also still trying to figure out the Widgets. Hopefully my blog will look nicer later on.

    1. Hi! i can see your ‘about’ page needs to be edited. Also, you might want to consider adding a header photo to the top of your blog. Welcome to the world of blogging 😀

    2. Welcome 🙂

If you look over to the right of your posts, you’ll see a bit of placeholder text — it’s meant to help you learn how to work with widgets, and you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

(For more on widgets, what they’re for, and how to use them, check out https://learn.wordpress.com/get-flashy/)

  5. The Last Day

This is my first post to word press, however not my first blog post ever. I took to writing after my daughter died and recently moved everything over here. I’m hoping this will making keeping my blog updated easier and help me reach others easier. I’d love any constructive/kind feedback you have to offer. This post is about the day my daughter passed and was written on the 3yr Anniversary of her passing this year(September 25).
