Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

The Community Pool will be closed for maintenance next week (September 11) — we’ll see you again the following Monday (September 18)!

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Check out my double shot photography piece and poem of the week, “Hello, My Child.” My cat is the subject Scampers is the subject of both the picture and the poem, and I think I’ve done a good job of capturing her in both. The response to the piece was very positive. Cat people, poetry people, photography people, and everyone else is welcome to come by and meet this little life. Comments and feedback are always welcome, and please leave them in the comments section of the post page, and click the like button on the post page. If you like what you see, feel free to browse around, and follow along so you don’t miss anything as I post several times a week. Thanks in advance.

    1. I really enjoy how you shared the lightbulb moment you had after struggling with the noise your little boy had made to wake you up. And it looks like you have some fun preschool ideas! Happy learning to the three of you 🙂

  2. Hello fellow bloggers! I generally write about life issues and struggles on my blog. My last post flowed out of my own hard times, and some of the most helpful things I’ve learned in my journey. My hope in writing this blog is to present a safe place for sharing real struggles as well as true hope that can carry us through our hardest times. I’d love to hear your thoughts! https://feelingsuicidalblog.wordpress.com/2017/08/30/endurance/

    1. Hi, pal! I read those Prom Night posts- we don’t have proms here in India, but it seems like even I would mess up something like that. I like how you document all your teenage struggles.
      Cheers!

  3. Loved the post on growing your audience. I’ve only been blogging since Feb and have so much to learn. I like the way you explained alt text for pictures- my bf keeps telling me about it but he’s never explained it like that- now I get it. I don’t understand what the headings are-especially more that one heading. How would that apply to my blog? And is a heading different than the title? I’m also not totally understanding META.. I just redesigned my blog, the old theme wasn’t loading quick enough, this one looks better and loads faster. I’d love it if you’d check it out and give me some tips. https://www.backyardbirdlady.com Thanks in advance. Also, is there any way I can save your posts so I can read more of them later? I’m already following you.

    1. It was a little awkward, but I did get the point and found it amusing. Here’s a possible rewrite of the first paragraph. ” Once a Queen announced a competition open to all the residents of her country. If anyone brought her a fruit she didn’t know existed, she would reward them with gold coins. Anyone who brought her a fruit she knew, would receive the punishment of having her dump the whole fruit in their mouth.” https://gracelead.co

      1. Your poems are so cool! The descriptions are so precise that the picture you see while writing the poem is seen by the reader while reading it.. not many poets have that capability! Love it and waiting to read more poetry from you! ❤❤

    1. I haven’t started reading the chapters yet- but you can be sure I will when my exams aren’t around the corner and I have more time on my hands. As for adding the Categories, click on that wench-and-screwdriver icon (that’s the Customize icon actually) at the bottom right corner of your homepage. Click on ‘Widgets’, then ‘Add a widget’ and choose Categories. Voila, your list of categories will now be a part of your site’s sidebar. Hope I could be of some help 🙂

  4. Hey everybody! For this week’s #MondayMotivation I wrote about Fakers. Give it read, and let me know what you think!
    https://aestheticgraphy.wordpress.com/2017/09/04/fakers/

My blog content is very diverse and doesn’t really fit into a particular criteria like “writing” or “photography”. Its an all in one blog, including haiku’s/weekly motivation/quotes/travel/photography and basically my life on a blog. I hope you enjoy reading!

Do leave links to your blog as I’d like to check it out!

    Have a great week ahead.

    1. Wonderful! It’s so true- people are so much more than this external shell we call the body. It’s amazing how our society always tells us to be ‘good’, as defined by its pseudo-morality, yet always judges us on our appearance. But you know, it’s also unconscious a lot of times- if you’re familiar with what’s known as the Halo effect. We are more likely to trust a good-looking person than an average-looking or ‘ugly’ one. We can’t help it- it’s hardwired into our brains. But we can surely control how we judge someone. External ‘beauty’ means nothing if you have nothing inside.

    1. Your bliss balls recipe looks pretty simple and as you say, they’re delicious, so I’m definitely gonna try them. I loved the format of your post- how it wasn’t simply a set of instructions but kinda conversational and humorous.

    2. Well… all I do is log into my account… hit write then I write…okay okay… jest aside…. put it on a schedule…. simple…”i’ll blog on mondays at so and so time, or friday or everyday. ” and stick to it… after the first few times it will come, motivation will come…. *i think* “if you build it they will come” (just had to sneak that in there Feild of Dreams in case you didn’t know.)

    3. Your post had me laughing as I read it. Liked your humour and the Bliss Balls recipe. Should try them next time we will have meat here at home. About posting consistently, I don’t sit and write a post on one day. I do it portions and on different days because I don’t have the time and I only post once a week. I think a plan on when to brainstorm when to write what, and when to post might help.

Let us know how it goes

    4. If you want to write consistently my advice would be to set a goal. One post per week or what ever is realistic. Then prioritize it. It may not be as important as your job but may be more important than watching a certain TV show or playing with balls (LOL). Schedule time to do it, even if you write part of it one day and part the next. I do that often sometimes it will take me several days to complete a post. I think my biggest motivator is readers who say they like my blog. Hope this helps.
