Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

The Community Pool will be closed for maintenance next week (September 11) — we’ll see you again the following Monday (September 18)!

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. Hi there! You absolutely had me in stitches! I love quirky and intriguing things like a name’s history and I truly loved how you wove it all together. In fact, I was seriously ready to follow you before I finished half of this article. Ended up reading two before I hit that follow button! 😁

And though our blogs are slightly different, I think we’ve got enough similarities it should be a fun avenue to see how each works. Or not. Anyway, your writing style is awesome! Thanks for the laughs and the share. Cheers! 💫

    1. I read this the other day and I have to tell you it’s incredibly commanding in its presence. It’s resonated with me and I can’t express how much it meant to me having the honor to read it. Thank you for sharing. I wish you all the best! 💫

  1. Hello!
I have a question for everyone: what time do you post at? I usually post in the morning on a variety of days, but last week I posted on a Saturday afternoon (this post: https://coolbeans4.wordpress.com/2017/08/25/7-things-online-that-i-cant-believe-are-free/) and my stats/levels of engagement were way down. I figured people would still see it eventually, but not many people did. Was the post just not up to par or was it merely poor timing?

    1. I post Wednesdayst at 11am. I think to create an equation to calcuate optimal posting time would be complex. First, you’d need to know when your intended audience is most likely to be in the WordPress Reader or searching the internet for key words related to your topic. If you can do that for each viewer demographic, I’m guessing there are people who would be willing to pay for the information. https://gracelead.co

      1. You want me to..do math? Yikes.
I think because my readers vary greatly in age, it’d be hard to really identify a prime posting time. But I think I’ve had decent success with morning postings. I’ll definitely play around with times a little bit. Thanks!

      2. Haha! Unless you’re into math, please don’t frustrate yourself. I haven’t attempted the math either. My point is simply that I think there’s not an easy answer that will work in all cases.

    2. We post Mondays at 7:30am local time. Some weeks it works great, others, not so much. Long weekend Mondays seem to get the most hits, but mornings in general do the best it seems. I think it’s because people look at their Facebook at emails when they get to work so as to avoid starting work. Lol

  2. Hi everybody,

I have a new post up. Anyone in the UK who fancies their hand at surfing, head up to Surf Snowdonia in North Wales. You don’t even have to go into the sea!

Surf Snowdonia have posted a link onto their own FB page, so I am pretty stoked and getting some good traffic through today – I want to make it a record hits day if I can, so please click the link and have a read!

    1. I really like your blog and writing it’s unique and interesting to read yet also relatable at the same, some things I’d suggest would to either edit or remove the text widget you have on the home page and to also add an About Page so readers can get to know more about you and your blog.
      I hope this was useful!!

    1. If someone wants to “pay me back,” I suggest they do something kind for someone else who needs a little help (pay it forward). My thanks is typically an email telling how their kindness made a difference to me. Other times, I send them a thank you card through the postal service. https://gracelead.co

      1. thanks 🙂 well wattpad has 1000+ books which are free to read and it gives opportunity to those who love to write and want to become writers to show their talent on that platform. and if someone likes their book they get published. So it’s kind of like supporting writers who have just started their writing journey. Hope it helped 🙂

      2. That’s interesting. Who does the site cater to… age, genre, etc? This would be a great post, would love to hear WHO founded the company, why, where are founders from, and so on. Is this mainly for people who want to self publish? Meaning that the books are unpublished stories? Curious about all of this. I’ll have to read up on it. Thanks for teaching me something new!

    1. There’s a lot of ways that you increase blog traffic, you’ve already made a step in the right direction by posting on the Community Pool but to maximise the benefits try to engage with other bloggers. Where possible reply to comments such as leaving constructive criticism, visit other blogs and leave likes and comments but only on the posts you actually like.
I’ve got an entire blog post on how you can boost blog traffic https://whenlifeawakens.wordpress.com/2017/08/19/100-followers-blogging-tips-tricks-beaboss-series/
