To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Welcome 🙂

Looks like you haven’t given your site a title yet! If you’d like to add one (we recommend it), you can do that by going to My Site > Customize > Site Identity.

    1. We’re glad you’re so excited about your new blog (yay!), and that you shared your link here. We’d appreciate it if you didn’t leave multiple, identical comments linking to your blog — it’s considered a little spammy and we’ll remove the duplicates. The best way to get people to visit you is to visit them and/or leave them some meaningful feedback!

    1. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

      1. Thank you for that. I still don’t really understand what categories and tags are. Or honestly how to use them at all really. I’ve kinda been treating them like hash tags on Instagram because I don’t know what to do with them. I will definitely research more. Thank you so much for the helpful advice! ❤️

      2. This might help:

Tags help readers find your blog.
Categories help people already on your blog find specific things on your blog.

If you wrote a post about your favorite movies, you might give it the tag “movies” so people searching for posts about movies in the Reader can find you. Then, you might give it categories like “Comedy” and “Action” so the people already on your blog who are looking for specific kinds of posts can find it.

Some folks use both, some only use one or the other — it’s up to you.

        Make sense?

    1. Welcome!

FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s homepage and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that.

      Here’s your homepage: http://ajohnsdb.wordpress.com/

I also noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, over to the left of your posts — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

    1. Hi, I love your courage and how you have taken a big step in life, am following you as your new life sounds so interesting, so un-America, not that I know that much about it. Honestly, water tank ?!

      Welcome on board!

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, over to the right of individual posts (that is, not on your homepage) — you can remove or edit that by going to view one of your posts, then going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

    1. I don’t know if it’s me but this is the third link that I’ve come across today that doesn’t take me to the post that it’s supposed to. The bit in the front doesn’t have your blog name, so I don’t know if that’s the issue, or if its me …

    1. Hello, ignore my previous comment just saw this link. Your writing is very upbeat and cheerful, very relaxing reading. If I may, one piece of advice, write what you are comfortable with as that’s where your best writing comes from, and not what people want you to write.

      Happy blogging.
      Ps, congrats!!!

    1. You don’t have to use tags, but it helps to promote your post if people search for say, Harry Potter, daydreaming, basketball, baking … Then your post should come up in the search with all the others.

  1. Hi everyone! I just started blogging and I’m really excited to become apart of the WordPress community. I just started my first year in college, so a lot of my post are probably going to be about trying to figure out how navigate life as a college student and new adult.

I’d really appreciate it if you could check out my blog and leave advice or feedback, thanks!

    1. hello marsfromph, so i went through your your article and I’m a foodie so trust e you have a fan right here. so here’s my take;
      * i like the monochromatic black and white theme, its a beauty. Putting the links to pprevious posts just underneath the one being read is a good move, I’m just not sure how eyecatching it is. i mean the oint is to get people to see theother posts. unfortunately, i don’t know how it can be improved but its good.

      * there seemed to be some typos and stuff like that, I’d suggest typing your posts on ms. word first, then copying and pasting it on wordpress whilst making the necessary adjustments. this helps with most typos and grammatical errors as ms.word autocorrects certain basic things or draws your attention to them at least.

*the layout of the posts (read more than the cake 🙂 ) are siple and straightforward which is good, however I believe clear difference between headings and content under would make reading easier, especially as there are no clear paragraphing differences.

so far I’ve enjoyed myself, your blog sees really versatile 9the foodie in me was heartbroken at not finding more food but she’ll recover 😉 ). good job.

      1. sorry, i forgot; your text widget still bears instructions for the owner of the blog, for a minute i was confused thinking i’d somehow hacked into your account as the owner. you can correct it in your custoizing settings. plus, you should delete the automatic first blog post or edit it and actually make it a post.

      3. 🙂 completely my pleasure. blogging from a phone just got your blog higher ratings in my head, thats a hard thing to do. with regards to not knowing anything, google is the best right? plus dont be afraid to play around with the custoizing settings and all, you can always remove whatever you don’t like and you’ll learn a lot from the experience.

p.s.: we can definitely be friends 🙂
