To find, copy, and paste your link:

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Hello! I absolutely love your blog and it’s even better because I love yoga!!! 🙂 Your layout looks professional; I even like the dark color background, which sometimes I think it harder to pull off. Well done on that front!

I did notice that your About Page is still full of filler text that WordPress uses as an example until you decide to fill in the pertinent information. Perhaps you’d like to continue adding new content? Have you heard about the combined use of tags and categories for your posts? WordPress filters them out fifteen and over (combined). I want to stress this so new readers will be able to find you! I followed you! It seems like an honor to be able to follow you along on this journey.

      All the best! 😁💫

      1. I usually recommend updating the site via a desktop computer or laptop instead of a mobile or tablet. Of course you can do it both ways; I have found that it’s easier to manage from desktop/laptop. If you go to “my site” there should be an option that allows you to edit individually or the whole thing at once. Try “site preview” first and there should be edit buttons off to the side throughout. When you do that, the best way is to act as if you’re a new person come to view your blog; so I would click on every link to make sure all’s been filled in. Hope this helps (I did most of it via memory, so apologies if things aren’t identical!) Let me know if you need more help. 🙂

    1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, over to the right of your posts — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

(For more on widgets, what they’re for, and how to use them, check out https://learn.wordpress.com/get-flashy/)

There are some great guided courses at http://bloggingu.wordpress.com, and if you feel like you could use a little more help with the ins and outs of WordPress.com, there’s a useful “getting started” tutorial here: http://learn.wordpress.com.

    2. Hello there, Natalie!

Your blog is lovely! The layout and execution of it is simple, yet elegant. Very easy to navigate. Also, your fun personality bleeds through on your posts and I believe that will bring in loads of new readers. I don’t think you’ll have problems bringing in a true, solid audience! 🙂

I did notice under your menu option “blog” that you still have filler text. Perhaps give a look at that? Let me know if you have any further questions I might be able to answer!

      Happy blogging!! 💫

    1. Just read your post and I have to admit.. that I am also guilty of checking my phone constantly throughout the day. It was a great read and made me aware of my addiction. Looking forward to reading more from you!

    2. Love the color scheme. Warm, inviting, welcoming, reminiscent of lemon meringue pie, but anyway. The feel of the color scheme matches the feel of the content, and your use of the occassional picture balances out the text so it doesn’t feel like a straight-through read. Kind of like telling the reader ‘now take a few seconds and think about what you just read…now scroll past the picture and keep reading.’

      1. It seems that youvare pretty experienced. Youbalso have quite a good taste about colours. Thank you for your lovely feedback. I hope people reading my posts will get inspired and sense the big picture. Life is short and we waste a lot of time worring. Sadly we forget we are not alone 🙂

  2. My name is Birgitta and I am just trying to figure this WordPress thing out. I am getting back into graphic design, and I’m actually trying to figure out how to load multiple images on one page so I can use it for examples of my work. Any thoughts are welcome. Here is my first page: https://bwddesigns.wordpress.com/

    1. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

    1. Feelings mutual. I definitely started writing before I created my blog, but it felt uninspiring too so just like you decided to give it another shot. I look forward to reading your new post today and can’t wait to see what else you plan to write!

      1. Agreed! I think the challenge for me is knowing when to give up. Sometimes you just want to keep going because of all the work you’ve put in. It’s going to continue to be a challenge, but glad we figured it out sooner rather than later!

      1. Haha I think I know the song you’re talking about! My ‘mission’ as such is to pursue a career in writing once I’ve graduated from university and if having a blog could lead to other writing opportunities I guess people will know where to find me

    1. Welcome 🙂

Looks like you haven’t given your site a title yet! If you’d like to add one (we recommend it), you can do that by going to My Site > Customize > Site Identity.

    1. Welcome!

The image is fine, but you might consider making your title a lighter color — it’s a bit hard to read against the flames right now. Head to My Site > Customize > Colors to try out some other options.

      1. Thank you. I’ve tried changing the font colour but that doesn’t seem to be an option. I can only change the theme colour/background…

      2. In that case, I would use a free online tool like PicMonkey or Canva to add the text directly to the image — you’ll be able to control the size/color/font/etc. Then, upload that as your header, and go to the “Site Identity” panel in the Customizer and uncheck the “show title and tagline” box to remove the existing title.

        We’ve got a tutorial here: https://wordpress.com/dailypost/2014/11/27/custom-header-archives/

FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s homepage and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that.

    1. Hi! I love motivational blogs; they’re a good little piece to have in one’s blogging journey. You have a nice and approachable voice!

I noticed you still have some placeholder text and widgets that WordPress has as filter.

      Best of luck! 💫

      1. Sure thing, no worries! This is the beginning of the best of times with your blogging. Have you heard about using tags and categories? If you haven’t, try to use a combination of less than fifteen because if you use more, then WordPress filters posts out as spam and then nobody could find you under the reader! 😱 Please let me know if you have any questions I might be able to help answer. 😄
