Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hey everyone! Read my Manhood Monday post#11: Lion vs. Mouse
    http://wp.me/p876wZ-Jd
    Excerpt:
Are you a lion or a mouse? You’re probably thinking something along the lines of “that’s a strange question.” And you’re right. But it’s one that I hope will get you thinking (and…keep you reading!)

      1. Interesting! Thanks for the feedback. There was someone who LIKED my post, so I wanted to visit them, but was unable to do so. That’s a shame.

BY THE WAY, I hope people visit your site. I just read your article on manufacturing, it was excellent. Provide your link for people. They should read it. 🙂

    1. Quite an emotional read, thank you for sharing this! Everyone makes mistakes, sometimes it’s just about not being hard on yourself and letting go!

    1. You’ve got a nice Blog. Is there a reason why you named it 101 Blog? Your first post talks about economics, but your Author section is soliciting writers for your Blog on any topics. So, it’s not clear “what” your post is about. Also, your Author pages sounds like there are more than one of you producing this Blog. As you are at the beginning stage, it would be good if you clarify this. ALSO, normally, Bloggers create a CONTACT page, so people can reach you rather than putting your email in your Author description. Personally, I would change that. Otherwise, it looks like a GREAT start. https://brilliantviewpoint.com/2017/08/28/self-help-elf-help-books-indiana-ireland/

  3. Hello everyone! Happy Monday! (Am still unconvinced Mondays can be happy, but I’m trying for positivity when I can.) 😃

I finished that series I introduced a couple weeks ago, if anyone is still interested. I’ll link the first and then you can follow the next button. (Or I have it nicely filed under my Series button.) here’s that: https://britwitblog.wordpress.com/2017/08/10/pram/

If the series isn’t your cup of tea, then I’ve got some short and sweet flash fiction pieces from the last few days. I’ll just link to my main page now.

    1. Wonderful photos and write up about Dover. I prefer shorter posts. This could have been written in 2 posts. I say this, because we are ALL trying to view a lot of different Bloggers websites and if ALL of them are long like yours, we can’t read much. THEN we just skim your post, which is not what you want. You have beautiful photos and a nice write up. https://brilliantviewpoint.com/2017/08/28/self-help-elf-help-books-indiana-ireland/

      1. Thank you for commenting- that is a really valid point. I think I would prefer to write something short and sweet, that people will read properly, rather than something that will just be skimmed over! Just checking out your blog- it looks beautiful so far xxx

      2. Thanks… if you start looking at a lot of Blogs as well, I think you will see that if a Blog is shorter, you can visit more Blogs. Really enjoy travel articles. You had a wonderful story and photos! GREAT JOB!

  4. At this point in the year, I try to look as though I have a natural summery glow. Yet this ‘natural’ glow usually requires a bit of grafting and a good 20 minutes, or more, in front of the mirror.

This is my guide to achieving a natural summer glow:

I hope that you find it useful and any blogging advice that you could give me would be greatly appreciated!

  5. Up and at ’em, bloggers,

People told me I was crazy when I suggested that dropping political satire into a travel blog might resonate with other readers. But then again, people said I was crazy just for taking a one-year trip.

To which I answered, “It’s my blog, I can do anything I want!”

So, from time to time, I’ll comment on the daily headlines for no good reason.

My latest entry is such an example:

In Search of Crater Lake (OMG, SMOG)

    I’d live your feedback!

    Cheers!

  7. Happy Monday, everyone! Here’s to another great Community Pool session.

Also, I truly love the layout of your blog. It’s easy to navigate and quite eye catching. You have a nice voice in your posts as well. Thanks so much for sharing!!

      1. Thank you so much! 🙂 ❤ It seems like such a feat, to be frank.

Thank you again! It's one of WordPress's free themes, and I'm well pleased with. Simple, easy to read, and with a bit of fun through color (in my opinion).

I've just looked at your blog and love the idea of Brit Wits! I'm definitely following. As a fellow American who loves (and yearns to be in) England and has her BS in English/writing, I feel it's my duty. 🙂 x

        Liked by 2 people

      2. I have found another fellow and loyal American wishing for life over seas!!! 😃😁 Thank you for the follow and the words. Seriously. Means a lot. ❤️

And it truly is! Something to be proud about it.

Also, I’ve been thinking about upgrading my blog. But the free themes are so charming and lovely. Makes me wonder what’s on the other side! 😆 And hey! I love fun through color, too! Color makes life so much cooler.

Did you major in creative writing, too? Or did a double? If you don’t mind my asking.

        Liked by 2 people

      3. I’m lucky enough to be married to a Brit, too, so the wish for living overseas is just… growing daily. Haha

I’ve been thinking about upgrading my blog, too, but I’m giving myself a three-month minimum before putting any money into it. I want to stick with it, get a little more organized, and /then/ consider my options. It just seems like too much to take on at this point.

I majored in English with a concentration in “writing”, so I studied creative writing and editing/publishing primarily, with the occasional literature classes thrown in. What about you? A double major, or a concentration sort of deal? (And I don’t mind you asking at all! xxxxx)

      4. Ahhh, even better being married to a Brit! 😁😁😁 hahaha I would be demanding a move, oooooor at the very least a part-time residence. 😇

I’ve had my blog a little over four months now. I’ve been told from other bloggers now would be a good time to switch. It seems like it would be a good choice. Then again, there are other blogging with four times as many followers as me who are still on the free theme. So who knows? Based on each person’s individual needs, I suppose is how it boils down to it. Whatever you decide, I’m sure it’ll be great! 🙂

Thanks for answering and that’s great! Mine was technically creative writing, but the majority of classes were more English/literature based, which was fine. Sorta. Wished I could have taken more writing courses that wasn’t on how to write a college level paper, but that’s cool too! I had to drop my minor my last semester because of one class I was unable to take; but my minor was in criminology! So I’ve got sociology and criminology as a background, which makes it fun for writing gorier pieces of fiction lol. That and my love affair of crime dramas…! 😅 I also got sucked in to the philosophy classes that I probably could have minored in, as well. ❤️

      5. We’re doing the “let’s live here for five years and THEN move to England” thing — or we’re trying to, at least. 🙂

Four months seems like a good amount of time! And your blog seems to be nailed down in terms of content and direction, so upgrading isn’t a bad idea. Then again, there’s nout (have you done this word yet?) wrong with free.

I totally know what you mean about the lack of actual creative writing classes! Most of mine were “creative” but only barely. I only took two workshop-type classes, one which was great and one which was not. And I focused on graphic design for my minor — but that was a fiasco. (I took major-level classes and skipped all of the prerequisites, and the school wouldn’t give me a minor OR major. Rude.) Criminology is sooo cool, though. Cool from a “better you than me” and “I’ll bask in your knowledge” point of view. Haha ❤

      6. Well, cheers to that! Either way, sounds like you two have quite the adventures ahead of you! 🙂

I like that perspective! And while I haven’t used that word yet, I am like 98% positive it’s on my ever-growing list. 😁 If it’s not…well, I looooove adding new words. So thank you!

Yes! Exactly. I technically had three creative writing classes. The first one was open for all students though and it was broken down in sections during the semester. I took a creative non-fiction class and a poetry class. I WISH they let me take the fiction class, too. Well, I could have. But by that point I had all the necessary credits and why take a night class when it isn’t mandatory? Ha! And how rude! Ugh, I hate when those type of situations happen! And with graphic design too?! Lame. I enjoyed criminology; it was a better minor avenue for me because I didn’t have to take some harder classes. Haha ❤️

  8. Hello fellow bloggers. I’m excited it’s another day of community pool. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to share this post here but it means so much to me. This is a very emotional piece for me and has to do with someone who is very dear to my heart. I’d love to know what everyone thinks of my poetry and my blog in general. Any thoughts, ideas and insights are very welcome. https://bloggerinablogworld.com/2017/08/27/in-memoriam-poetry/ thank you! I look forward to reading everyone else’s posts as well.

    1. You wrote a nice post. I noticed you didn’t have a LIKE button, you might want to add that. The design you chose for your Blog is interesting; however, a bit confusing, because you have a Quote in the back and then the current title of your Blog slides over the very large Quote… it was a bit confusing to navigate. Your message was was an excellent one. https://brilliantviewpoint.com/2017/08/28/self-help-elf-help-books-indiana-ireland/

      1. It’s very strange. Your LIKE button does not look like any other bloggers Like button. Usually, if we LIKE your post, there are a list of other people’s gravitas there that we can see. With yours that does not exist. I pressed LIKE, hopefully, you see it there. Maybe have your friends try it out.
