To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

  1. Hello All. I’m extremely new to blogging and I would really like it if you could perhaps give me some advice on how to set up my blog because I’m truly clueless. I feel like blogging is a good way to practice my writing skills and get my opinions on topic out, so I made a blog. It’s also a very helpful way to not feel isolated in the holidays.

My blog will have many creative posts up as soon as I can work out how, in case Politics and emotions bore you. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and possibly even looking at my first post. Thank you.

    1. I liked your post; however, the colors/font seem a bit bland in my opinion. If you like it, by any means keep it that way. It’s your site, you can do whatever you want. I can check anything else if you want me to.

    2. Good post, I enjoyed reading it. Very honest 🙂

As for the look of your blog, yes, it could use a bit of work. Your blog title and tagline are very good – they need to played up with a nice header. The background color should be white or very, very pale grey…this will make the text easier to read. And I prefer text that’s a bit more bold-looking than typewriter font.

It looks like “TizzyMatic” has offered to help you. If you need further help on customizing your blog, feel free to use the contact form on my blog at:

      Keep up the great writing!

    1. Your first post was appealing to look at. In no time, you’ll find your complete blogging style. Probably even look back at how you used to write like, “what in the world?”, lol.

  2. Hello everybody!! So I uploaded my first ever blog post on Monday and I’ve already uploaded two others as I have enjoyed it so much!! However I am still having a bit of trouble searching and finding other blogs for me to read and like so this is a perfect opportunity. My first blog post is more of an introduction so I would recommend either my second which is a q and a for those who like to read or a holiday throwback post for those more visual. However I will leave a link to my blog and if anyone wants me to check their blog out feel free to comment as I’m more than happy too. Looking forward to getting to know all✨☺️

    1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, over to the right of your posts — you can remove or edit that by going view one of your posts, then going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

    2. This is so beautifully written! I really enjoyed your way of writing! And I personally think the idea of wailing wall to be better because I’m the kind of person who hates to cry in front of people.
Have a nice week ahead Shivani!

      1. When you log in to WordPress.com on a computer, “My Site” is in the upper left corner. If you’re using the app, try using your phone’s browser to log in instead — there are a few things that are easier to do in the browser.

    1. Hi, and welcome!

We’re glad you’re so excited about your new blog (yay!), and that you shared your link here. We’d appreciate it if you didn’t leave multiple, identical comments linking to your blog — it’s considered a little spammy and we’ll remove the duplicates. The best way to get people to visit you is to visit them and/or leave them some meaningful feedback!

    2. Feel free to edit the title of that text widget as well — you can call it whatever you like (or delete the title altogether), it doesn’t have to say “text widget.”

    2. Hi there! Welcome to the lovely blogosphere. 😃 It seems like you’ve got loads of positive and energetic vibes!! Thank you for sharing your post. Your daughters are darling! 🙂 And all the best of getting into your chosen field; this is a time of excitement and nerves, but I’m sure you’ll do fine.

I think the best advise I may give you for growing a successful blog starts with always being you! From there, be mindful of the tags and categories you use for your posts (though do heed to the fact WordPress filters posts as spam if you use more than fifteen combined). If you’re ever stumped, give the daily post a try! Also, interact with your readers on the blog and interact with fellow bloggers here on First Friday and then over at the Community Pool on Mondays. Build an audience. Just remember you’re always blogging for yourself. You’ll do fine! (And I hope my rambling helped slightly.) All the best. 💫

      1. Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback. I had no clue about the spam posts! (I will be mindful of that) And I just really love taking pictures and I’m hoping that blogging will help me let out my creativity and also get better at taking pictures! Thanks for your help ☺️

Little tips, put some pictures on your posts, and show the excerpt of the post on your home page instead of showing the whole thing. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

    1. Spectacular blog, the wide variety of content that you provide on your blog is very nice, and the way that you bring out some posts are very great. A little tip, if you are quoting some other people’s post, please do write a review or something to tip it off, it is not that good to just paste a link there and make it a post. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s homepage and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that.
