Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. Wow… Nothing much to say… Your pictures are stunning and they are very aesthetic, and you managed to captured those minute details with utmost precision. A little tip, if you could slip in more words into your pictures occasionally that would be nice. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

  1. Hi everyone!

My name is Jo – i’m an 18 year old aspiring psychology student who is currently out of education due to severe mental health problems.

I have never had a stable place to live and have bounced around different homes, hospitals, friends and family since I was 13 years old. I have recently started my blog ‘A Penny for your Thoughts’ which documents my experience with mental illness and a chaotic lifestyle. I would love for a few people to read my latest post and see what you think – I am working to raise awareness, stamp out stigma and make a positive change within the mental health system. I’m currently just starting out so trying to build a following on here 🙂 I also run an online support group which i’m trying to grow to reach more people who might benefit.

Please read my latest post: ‘Timewasters? A lost generation’ here: https://apennyforyourthoughtsmh.wordpress.com/2017/08/03/timewasters-a-lost-generation/

Would really appreciate some feedback! Also, if there are any other bloggers out there writing about similar subjects I would love to check out your posts and possibly follow.

Sending positive vibes and happy thoughts…
    Jo x

    1. I had a look at your post and it was incredibly heartfelt and expressive, I was taken aback when you provided facts on mental health and the current system. It honestly needs some major restructuring and looking into because I agree, it’s evident that the current system is in shambles.
This was the main reason as to why I decided to study psychology for several years, to see if I could make a change, even to help a person and it’s honestly amazing to see you doing something powerful and selfless to help those who are suffering. Truly a heartwarming sight.

    1. When you go onto the New Post screen, click the drop down icon next to categories and tags. This will show you the categories you’ve already created as well as give you an option to add a new one. Then you just tick, the categories you want the post to appear in.

  2. Hi everyone! I wanted to ask for your advice on my blog. I have started few months ago, mainly practising writing and not sharing it with many people, but now I thought… if it’s there why not get some opinion! 🙂 blog is mainly about changes i did/still do 😉 in my life and general thoughts. I love positivity and would be great to spread it around! Thank you for taking your time and any feedback! 🙂

    1. Your blog from the onset looks really put together, I like how you have a main image for each of your posts and that the topics you write about are heartfelt and relatable too. I read your recent post on solo travelling and it was enjoyable learning about your experiences and what you observed.
One thing I would say is to create categories for the main topics you write about, then put certain posts that fit into that topic. Also, add tags to your posts, it helps with blog traffic!!

    2. Hi Klaudia,

Going through your blog was a phenomenal experience for me as a reader & that’s why you earned my follow. Everything was very well structured & I really enjoyed going through the post pertaining to solo traveling & the pun you used in “Oops I did it again” was pretty rad. Just one small piece of advice & that is maybe you can add a “Contact” header/menu close to the “About” section. I noticed you have proactively added your Facebook & Instagram so that your readers can easily reach out to you but there can be situations when some of your readers may not want to connect with you (due to their own privacy reasons) via FB or Insta but still might want to convey a valuable feedback to you so “Contact” menu might be an ideal way for them to reach out to you. On the whole, it was a great learning experience for me to go through your posts as well because I felt as if through the medium of your vivid posts I myself was traveling to those incredible places. May your blog continue to bloom into something beautiful, please do stay in touch friend 🙂

      Warm Regards,

    1. I agree that the colors make them look appetizing. I’ve wondered where blueberries got their name. They look purple to me. 🙂 Some vegetables look beautiful as well: yams, eggplants, peppers (red, green, yellow), cauliflowers (white, purple, green, orange), lettuces (green, purple)… https://gracelead.co

      1. I know and there is no redberries. A pizza slice with orange, yellow and red peppers with purple onions on top is irresistible to me. Those fall and winter foods have such a cozy plalate to them as well.

    1. Though I have a hard time making it to that frequency, I find minimum weekly to daily. Results are best when I am consistent in frequency and timing of posts that I choose. For long posts, once a week and short quotes or thoughts can be up to one or twice a day.

    1. It is very easy and useful. From the My Sites tab on the left, you can go to the Sharing section and Connect your twitter account by logging into it. Once it is connected, next time you do a blog post, in the Settings > Sharing section, make sure Twitter option is checked off and as soon as you publish the post, a tweet will be created automatically too.

    1. From the onset your blog looks beautiful and it’s aesthetically pleasing, I like how you’ve organised the tabs at the top with different categories because it makes the layout much cleaner and readers can easily find what they’re looking for.
The layout of the posts on your home page are also really easy to follow and view, the fact that you’ve included a disclosure is appropriate too.
      Hope this was useful!!

    1. You are entitled to use whatever criteria you like. It’s your blog. I do think you could simplify the list and soften the tone a bit. Here’s a possible alternative for your criteria.
      1. Categories: The only post categories I’m currently seeking are writing, writing tips, short stories, and poetry.
      2. Style: I will not use posts with curse words or bad language.
      3. Content: I will not use posts that promote religious views contrary to Christianity.
I don’t think you need to mention that you will ban people who submit offensive posts. You can simply do it and move forward. Stating it upfont seems unwelcoming. Again, it’s your blog. Do what you feel is appropriate. https://gracelead.co

      1. You’re very welcome! I just saw your new “about me” section, and it’s great! Two more suggestions for you –

        1) Turn on the commenting for your About Me (I only discovered 4 months ago that mine wasn’t on – oopsies!).

        2) If you don’t want to attach your personal social media to the blog, creating a blog-specific Twitter account (at the very least) and listing it will give people incentive to tweet your stuff.

Love the new color scheme too – nicely done!

    1. So far your blog with the posts you’ve created looks good and the theme itself works with the content you’ve produced. Though I would say work on the About page first so that people can find out what type of blogger you are and your interests etc. There’s a text widget that appears on your blog that you can either customise or get rid of.
I wish you all the best with blogging!!

  4. The broken piece.

Hello fellow bloggers! Its just my metaphorical way of expressing the struggles i faced while “fitting in”. In the end i realized that it was all about finding the right people. With the right people, you wouldn’t feel the need to fit in because they would never make you feel like you didn’t belong. And please feel free to point out any grammatical mistakes. I am bad at editing and i want to improve myself. Thank you for reading.

    1. This is a really interesting post, I like how it flowed and how you documented the struggles. The overall look of your blog is pretty and also aesthetically pleasing, the colours and images you’ve chosen work really well together. Your about page is also good but you could try splitting it into sections or adding paragraphs between them for an easier read.
      Hope this was useful!!

  5. Greetings fellow bloggers,

In the past, I faced a lot of negativity in my life. Based on my personal experience I tried to unravel what a depressed person feels like (when facing his/her demons all alone) through the medium of this quote. The link to the quote is as follows, honest feedbacks would be really appreciated.

    1. At first I was looking for a ‘read more’ link or a way to go to the full post. Then I realized each post was just super short. However, I love it! You’ve got such good tips all wrapped up in a quick read. It’s different than that average blog in that way, but I like it! I would consider a different header – something with a little color to better define where the header ends and your posts start. Nice blog!
