First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, over to the right of your posts — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

Looks like you haven’t given your site a title yet! If you’d like to add one (we recommend it), you can do that by going to My Site > Customize > Site Identity.

A tip — you’re using a good number of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, rather than easier. Focus on the ones most relevant to your specific post.

  1. Hello Everyone!
This platform is so great! What a cool way to connect with and get support from the community. looking forward to find some amazing content here and I am also sharing the link to my first blog post (started 4 days ago!) with the hope that you would stop by and browse through the entire blog. I have also challenged myself to write/post everyday for the next 30 days so fingers crossed for me! Your thoughts and comments will be very appreciated. Thank you so much and also to Michelle Webber who runs this platform on Daily Post. Cheers!

  2. Hi. I’m 11 days old and sharing my ‘front page’ which was my first post. Want to use my blog to share some humour and some poignancy so feel free to have a look at what’s on offer so far. I’m on a huge new learning curve and look forward to finding others to follow and learning from the community. Wish me luck! 😉 https://thelockwoodecho.com/

    1. I’ll second that naming my blog was the most difficult thing I had to do to get started! Just a word of advice: you’ve got a disused widget in your sidebar. Don’t forget to go to “Customize” on your homepage and get that straightened out. Good luck!

  3. I love meaningful abstracts and also create some(not necessarily meaningful). This virtual space is going to be filled with articles on random topics (mostly unrelatable or out of any living person’s concern) and in case I am feeling a bit too artistic, then you may be able to witness some poetry too(not necessarily bounded by the rhymes). Anyways don’t bind yourself with any expectations.
Here us go to my new post:

    1. I really like that your posts are going to be random and whatever you feel at the moment will come out in your writings. I think that’s the best way to write because you never limit your potential. The bugs imagery in your writing made me feel like I was surrounded by them. Great work, keep it up!

    1. It looks like your blog is doing well and your concept is taking off (I see you are finding followers quickly!). I’d recommend watching out for typos and trying to grow in grammar awareness over time (I find reading other really successful bloggers, etc. can help). Grammar and all that can be so tricky (not to mention frustrating sometimes 😉 ). I’m so sorry you lost your mom. It’s great you two bonded so much though! I was blogging a while ago about losing loved ones… That is so hard 😦 But it sounds like you have endured and kept on learning. I hope you have fun blogging!

      1. Thank you so much for your feedback! Yeah, my grammar is a bit rough around the edges. I used to be a spelling and grammar nazi lol..Now, all of those years out of college, I kinda got rusty. I’ll check out your post on losing loved ones! Any encouragement is helpful. Thank you Leanne!!

  4. Hello and welcome, new folks! We’re really excited to meet you.

As usual, I just want to remind everyone that we moderate the comments on First Friday pretty heavily — this is really a space for brand new people to introduce themselves and meet one another, and for others to welcome and support them.

If you’re not here to either share your (recent) first post or leave a supportive comment, please head to the Community Pool, which is where any blogger can seek feedback on any aspect of blogging. And if you’re not sure what the guidelines here are, please read the above post — or just ask!

    Happy blogging, y’all:)

      1. Thankyou so much! That makes me happy! 😄 I love your blog aswell… in fact looking at it I thought you were a double of me and my mum… we both love Harry Potter!! Which was amazing by the way. And both are bargain hunters and love DIY. I’m making little glass bottles at the moment with sand in from everywhere I’m traveling too. Thanks again 😄

    1. Love your posts. You really do a great job of combining media with the writing. I didn’t see a place for me to like or comment or the posts. Did you purposely disable that? I definitely wanted to give you kudos on the feminism one 🙂 I was shouting YES the whole time!

      1. Hey, thank you so much for reaching out to me! It makes me feel so happy and boosts my confidence in blogging, given how new I am to this. I just realized that my “leave a comment” is super tiny and near the tags and I also realize I don’t have a like button. I’ll look into it and try to fix that, but thanks for the feedback!
I’m glad you liked that one, it seriously so easy to write, given how passionate I am about the subject. Man much love to you!!!

  6. Hey Blogging Newbies! Almost four weeks ago we launched our blog and we are very happy that we found this just in time to receive valuable feedback.
Our Blog is about blogging and personal development. We decided to be as transparent as possible and started to document our journey from the beginning giving authentic income reports.
We would love to receive some honest feedback 🙂

    1. Wow… Your goals are well set, and you are very well prepared on your blogging adventure and to garner some extra cash, if you really want to commercialise your blog, the authenticity of your blog might be a little hard to keep. Great start. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

    1. Wonderful blog, loving the aphoristic style of your posts, they are very nice, and short but conveying a very strong message for each individual piece. Really love the quote with the itachi picture about ‘to the right, where nothing is left’, very inspiring. Great start. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

  7. I didn’t realize until fairly recently my passion for writing. A blog seemed the most natural place to start challenging myself, but I was nervous about writing my first post. A few weeks ago, I overcame that fear, sort of.

    1. Really love the veracity in your writing, you keep things real for your blog, you speak your heart and your mind. Loving the way that you bring out your posts. Little footnote, a cover picture for your blog is recommended. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!
